A plan for advancing in career

Tweak/polish your resume to tailor it to the different jobs you're applying for. Have multiple resumes for different kinds of jobs.
Apply to hundreds of job that are a bit above your league. 199 reject you. But maybe 1/200 of them want you. Maybe they like your personality, or you're at the right place at the right time.
Don't stay at a job for more than 2 years. Unless it's a career-job (i.e. good pay, something you enjoy, etc). Many of the people who get promoted get promoted within 2 years.
Hop from 1 out-of-their-league job to another every ~2 years. In 10 years of doing this, someone could double or triple their income.

This is called "Targeted Marketing". It works for Big Business as well as it works for individuals.Minervx_2 wrote:

This is the same method used by telemarketers. They do not need every call to bring in money, just 1 out of 100 will make sufficient income. The key to this method is volume -- do not stop at 100 or 200 and wait for 1 reply. 100 to 200 résumés every week is the minimum you should send out.Minervx_2 wrote:

Every job is a stepping-stone to the next job. However...Minervx_2 wrote:

... it works only as long as you do not become well-known for being a "Job-Hopper". No one wants to hire someone whom they suspect of wanting to stay for only a year or two (unless that person is really, really good at what they do).
