Would you ever wear a t shirt with the word 'autism' on it?

Not the word by itself but maybe "please be patient I have autism" or something. I'd wear one to make people aware that I'm autistic but at the same time I'd feel labeled as if I was 'broken' and people would treat me differently.

Edit: Some good points here and I 100% would not wear a shirt like that now.

Why not just wear a tee shirt with a big red target on the back?

It won't matter much to me.

And because I came from a place where it wouldn't matter at all.

You mean so I can make it more likely that I'll face discrimination while also making it more likely I'm accused of faking or glamorizing it?

If I wanted to kill two birds with one stone I'd just find a large stone and two small birds.

While I'm not so pessimistic to think that most people would knowingly treat autists badly, I am realistic enough to realize that too many people would.

HOWEVER

If the context was something like an autism awareness event, I would.

Going around in public just randomly wearing an "Autism" shirt would normally just make it easy for immature people to reduce your humanity to a label they don't even understand, but if it's an organized event then even most immature people would be daunted at starting s**t with people who are likely to have plenty of support nearby and the threat of a camera, security or police getting involved.

If it was for something based around Autism Acceptance/Awareness, sure, but if it was just to tell other people I have autism I don't think I would. I don't think I need a shirt to tell people I'm weird and delayed. lmao

Yeah if it was for a good cause, like a charity, sure i would consider it, but...just going up to strangers and announcing your diagnosis, thats something i generally dont do. I keep that on a Need to know basis.

I'm only worried of being accused of that if my loved ones are harmed in a mass shooting. 8)

I have a shirt that says "different, not less". That's as far as I'll wear.
