I have had insomnia and sleep issues for a while now, but I noticed that since I started having sex with my gf more, that on those nights where I do it with her, I sleep like a baby after, or at least quite well in comparison to having a lot of trouble falling asleep.

But because of our schedules, we can only have sex about twice a week usually of course at most. But I am wondering, is this normal or common for sex to help?

I think it's not unheard of.

You might try exercize and yoga or even meditation as well, and see if that works.

Some people think the "Blue light" of computers/cell phones keep people awake.

There's a long list of other things, if you do the research

"The most common causes are:

stress, anxiety or depression
noise
a room that's too hot or cold
uncomfortable beds
alcohol, caffeine or nicotine
recreational drugs like cocaine or ecstasy
jet lag
shift work" --nhs.uk

"go to bed and wake up at the same time every day

relax at least 1 hour before bed, for example, take a bath or read a book

make sure your bedroom is dark and quiet – use curtains, blinds, an eye mask or ear plugs if needed

exercise regularly during the day

make sure your mattress, pillows and covers are comfortable

Don’t
do not smoke or drink alcohol, tea or coffee at least 6 hours before going to bed

do not eat a big meal late at night

do not exercise at least 4 hours before bed

do not watch television or use devices, like smartphones, right before going to bed, because the bright light makes you more awake

do not nap during the day

do not drive when you feel sleepy

do not sleep in after a bad night's sleep and stick to your regular sleeping hours instead"

I'm a Quora user.

Here's what Quora had to say...

Oh yes thanks. There are other things I can do for the insomnia. It's just since sex was helping I was wondering if that means insomnia itself is being caused by something sex related as a result. If sex is the solution, does that mean that it's a sign that the problem could be sex-related therefore?

Not necessarily.

Try other options before concluding you need that to cope.

I can easily fall asleep after a naughty.
She curls up in my arms with her head on my chest or shoulder and we both fall asleep.

Oh okay. Is there anything else I can do to transfer these harmones to making me sleep without needing the sex everynight? I've tried other sleep hygiene practices but they haven't seemed to make a difference. Just the sex so far it seems.

It has helped me sleep. So has masturbation.

Oh okay. But when I try masturbation on days when I cannot get sex, the masturbation doesn't work, and the insomnia is still there. My insomnia is only cured for the night if I have sexual intercourse. Is it a psychological thing perhaps?

Who knows?

I feel like sexual intercourse does help with releasing tension. Tension tends to cause insomnia.

Don't put the burden on your lover, though. If she doesn't feel like it, she doesn't feel like it.

Some sites say factors like humidity and room temperature (obviously the later) affect your quality of sleep.

Oh yes for sure, I don't want to do that to her for sure. I just wonder if that if sex is the answer to the insomnia, then perhaps the problem also may be routed there or something, and this may be a piece of the puzzle perhaps.

I’m a big believer in waking up the same time every day. And if need be (meaning if I stayed up late the night before), later take a 45-minute “power nap” late morning or early afternoon. Some “authorities” recommend against napping, but I think they’re wrong.

And maybe learn about the circadian clock, and also your own personal clock. For example, most people have two up-energy times and two down-energy times during a 24-hour period. :( :D

————————

And although it’s neither here nor there, for me masturbation sometimes works to help me relax and get to sleep, and then again, sometimes it doesn’t.
