do you enjoy being an internet troll? I don't do it much anymore, but I used to do it a ton in communities I hated... here's a couple of fun ones...

pretending you are a hot girl (phone numbers are GOLD and make for some funny pranks)
pretending you are a racist, homophobe, hardcore conservative, a fan of Ann Coulter, Hitler, Bush, or all of the above (it sounds lame, but since everyone on the Internet is liberal, it's funny as hell. the best part is arguing irrationally)
subtly getting on people's nerves (being a grammar nazi, t4lk1ng l13k th15, etc...)
transforming into elitist bait especially with music (panic at the dico is more important to music than led zeppelin, etc...)
and of course when they ban you, evading the ban repeatedly and taunting

Um... no. I don't get any pleasure out of acting any other way but myself... and certainly getting rises out of people isn't amusing to me.

Well that isn't exactly true... I like to feign ignorance or suggest absurd ideas to get a reaction...ideally smiles and laughter. But it's never as mean spirited as what trolls like to do... The net result is usually people thinking less of me... unless they understand my humor.

Yes I've done that on warcraft 3 before. I hesitate to admit this, since I'm sure many people here just lost respect for me. It can be very funny. Thing is, I also have a sort of quest. You see, on Warcraft 3, there is a terribly overrated game called dota. Back in the day, you would have a list of 30 different games. Now it's 20 games of dota for every 30 games. I ruin dota games because they piss me off so much.
What I've done is: argued irrationally, been a grammer nazi, left games during the countdown for it to start, fed, pissed off teammates, convinced them all I believed something wicked dumb, and my favorite: fake banlist messages. They have made many for me. So when they are having trouble filling a game, the next person who joins is banlisted on Approved Bans Azeroth for being a banned for leaving in a 5v5 on (11/12/06) (banned by Phalkyn).
These days I don't do it so much. I usually just like to manipulate people, but not really ruin the games.
Sometimes using these things can even improve the game for everyone. When you get someone who is determined to argue with you, it can amuse everyone.

I can be very vindictive if provoked, hence the warning in my sig. I find most proper trolls (or rather, flamers) are very insecure people who have trouble coping with any sort of opposite opinion to their own. In order to secure for themselves their won opinion they must insult and belittle their supposed opposition. I've rebuked a few arrogant or offensive posts I've read on the internet, but with age I've learnt not to rise to such triviality and just laugh it off. One guy who really pissed me off (possibly the last guy a really trolled) really belittled my freinds and claimed when I had a go at him that the forum he moderated was full of kind, generous people who were all joined together by one single interest (it was a game forum). Poetic justice it was then when a few years later (just recently) I found that same forum on SomethingAwful's Weekend Web where it was revealed to be infested with Trolls and flamers.

Not everyone on the internet is a liberal, perhaps there is a large amount of Liberals, but I'm not one of them.

I troll sites that I dislike or deem stupid on a monthly basis. The huge amount of idiocy in some corners of the internet makes a fun trolling experience. I normally take up an anonymous alias and post until I'm I.P banned.

It's funny, how people can delude themselves, huddle up in their own warped world view, and throw away reason, logic, and sanity. I try to bring it to them or post counterarguments to their ideas.

Take PETA forums, Yiff communities, Pro-Anorexia sites, Anarchists, Pagans, and Neo-Nazis, as an example. I stay away from religious extremist forums, however, as they have potentially dangerous psychopaths, and being paranoid, I'm not going to risk it. Different forums merit different tactics as well. You don't go attacking Anarchists without an argument, whereas you just post pictures of chubby girls, say that you like them, as well as the odd Sir Mixalot rhyme, and spam them. Of course, there's slightly more than that, but such forums are easy to troll because most of their members are neurotic, unstable girls, which results in lots and lots of laughs due to the stupid responses.

"Trolling" to me is just rude and immature. I say, if you don't like the site, than don't go on it! There is no reason to annoy everyone who does like the site.

pretending you are a...hardcore conservative, a fan of Ann Coulter....

I was with you until you said this. Trolling can be an art and a science, a truly worthwhile endeavor, but to pretend to be a fan of Ann Coulter is the lowest of the low. There is a kernel of truth in even the most unconscionable of ideas—somewhere—and this is why we troll, but to accept Ann Coulter as your own personal conservative polemicist (even in jest) is beyond the accepted bounds of behavior even for Internet trolls!

I do advise sticking to less disturbing trolls as being a fan of Matlock in a forum for people who hate Matlock or the guy who bashes MySpace on Facebook for having "sucky graphics that give me seizures" until you learn what is sacred and what is profane (and happily never mixing the two).
