They're everywhere in the South. I've tried them, but didn't like them so much. I think it's a textural issue with me. I don't think nuts should be mushy.

I just don't know why I'd boil them in the first place. I much prefer roasted in the shell.

I've got a related question: Anyone know of a peanut butter brand (bonus for one that has no added sugar or salt) sold in the US that uses boiled, not roasted, peanuts?

Thanks for mentioning it. I will try to boil peanuts at home and see what its like. I like experimenting with new food.

ImageI don’t care for them either. Some people can’t get enough.Give me a roasted cashew any day.
You can even get canned boiled peanuts at the dollar store.

Just an interesting fact. There are strict peanut laws controlling who gets to grow them commercially.Anyone can grow some in their garden ,but not acres of them. They are heavily regulated.

Peanuts are legumes and once you think of them that way and how peas and beans are prepared for consumption, the boiling makes sense.
I don't like them very much.
When I was a kid I ate the shell too, because I thought that's what you did.

I like them, but have only had them a few times. My friend let me try some, he got hooked on them from his mom who lived in the South.

I tried making my own once, but didn't realize I bought the kind you had to soak 24 hours first, so they took a while to make.
