Lidl is a UK store that I never go to, but today me and my boyfriend went in there on the off chance. I left my phone at home and I didn't use my card to pay for anything, and when we bought stuff my boyfriend used cash. I don't have a membership card or anything. But later today I had a spam-type email from Lidl saying "welcome new customer" or something like that.

How did they know who we were and my email address? And no, we didn't give our email addresses to get a receipt, we just got a printed receipt there and then.

Spooky. Or am I being dumb and missing something?

It could have been just random spam that you noticed because you just had been there.

Hey Y'all;

I went playing in Google and found several articles like these, from several countries, from 2022, 2021, and 2020,
Will bet it was the following kind of thing, and as said, just a coincidence of timing,

https://www.pcrisk.com/removal-guides/2 ... email-scam
and
https://www.kentlive.news/news/uk-world ... rs-5810948
and
https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/lifestyle ... r-22117991

 from first article linked above,
Quote:
What is Lidl email scam?
Usually, phishing emails are disguised as official letters from legitimate companies, organizations (for example, banks, couriers). Scammers use these emails to trick recipients into providing personal information (for example, credit card details, login credentials).
This particular email is disguised as a letter from Lidl (a European grocery store). Scammers use it to trick recipients into entering personal information on a phishing website.

^ Thanks, that looks like the most likely explanation!

Hope you didn't give them your personal info, Joe.

No, I just saw the title subject and deleted it, I don't waste my time with spam emails.

Your bank might be sending you offers based on your transaction activity. Did you use your card there?

I already said in my OP no. I didn't even pay, my boyfriend did, and he used cash he pulled straight from his pocket.

Victim of TL;DR. Sorry I have a short attention span.

We do shop at Lidl around here, tasty things come from there. Also slippers.
