Sometimes I want to take an image and work with it - make it more artistic - fix a flaw.


I took Firemonkey's image and put my own spin on it - I hope he doesn't mind.

Firemonkey - if you like it you can have it as a gift.

I put it in Gimp and tried to compensate for the incorrect aspect ratio - then I increased the contrast and luminosity and converted the square image into a circle and rotated it slightly. I tried to make the colors "pop" a bit more and leaned the palet a bit more to the reds in keeping with the fire theme in his name. I was going for a popart kind of thing but only a little.
Just dabled a bit is all.
I fiddle with image sometimes and see what I can do with them. I'm not very good but sometimes I like the affect.

But I just dabbled in Gimp with filters instead.

I think firemonkey has an interesting face - and I was wondering why he chose his screen name and if it has something to do with being a fireman.

I started thinking about the fact that the image is not in proper aspect ratio and what he would look like if it were.

And the Andy Warhol Marilyn series (I actually went and found the original on the web and it is not quite like all the imitations you see.).

After a several hours of dabbling with Gimp I wasn't nearly as far as my original brain storms.

Does anyone else get into artistic / electronic mires like this?

I may get back to it sometime and try another variation or so.

If you own a PC or laptop (Windows, MacOS or Linux) Gimp and Inkscape are free open source with good communities - Gimp can do almost anything photoshop can do, but there are a lot of knobs so it takes time to get to know it. Inkscape is for vector art and uses SVG, but you can import a JPG or PNG as a texture and edit. Since Gimp and Inkscape are FOSS it is a good time investment to learn them - you don't have to keep paying for the new one or have the old one stop working because of an OS update, and they work on all major platforms. There are also a lot of on-line filters and effects - my daughter tends to use those on her phone or iPad. Some are faster and easier than installing the equivalent software. I used one recently to convert a pile of JPG images into a single PDF.

I used to want to be an artist in high school but I was not one of the stars - and i really stood out in the computer class.

I have some ideas for other WP person images too. Fnord uses a stock image to his might be fair game.
That one with a bird holding an artists pallet (I forget the username) has possibilities.
I am not sure how people might feel about me editing their identity image.
Isabella changes her often so she may not think of hers as "me", but others may be more attached to theirs.
I could fool with stock images but somehow the WP images keep suggesting things to me.
