What is a father figure?

A father-figure is someone like a father to someone who never had one.

noun:

an older man who is respected for his paternal qualities and may be an emotional substitute for a father.

example - "he had been a father figure to her since she was a child"

yes, just about anyone who you might view as a substitute father - you might also include an. older sibling.
