Do you sometimes feel forced to watch a new movie or show?

When a new movie or tv show comes out and it gets universal praise from critics and audiences I don’t feel like I have to watch it just because of that. I may not be familiar with source material or if I just don’t care, yet sometimes I like I’m forced to. Sometimes a new movie or show I feel like watching is based on something I watched years ago e.g. Star Wars, MCU and occasionally they are not that great but I watch anyway. Sometimes someone asks me if I am going to watch that show or movie because an actor from something I have watched is in it and if I say no I get the feeling that they may think something is wrong with me like I am part of the problem or I don’t understand. Sometimes, if it’s like an HBO show or something they can be too complex for me to understand and while there are some shows and movies I have seen to that caliber my brain can’t really take in that stuff at times.

No, not at all. If it doesn't interest me I won't invest time in it.

People in my part of the country should be forced to watch animated comedies.

I've never felt forced to watch anything just because it's new.

I wouldn't say "forced to watch" stuff but I do think entertainment today has turned into garbage. So Ive made a point not to watch anything new that comes out anymore. Every time my mom watches some woke crime drama or period piece bs with a splash of torture porn thrown in I try to tune it all out.

I'm thinking of investing in a bluray player someday and getting some of my fav older horror movies and comedies on an actual physical disc so that I don't have to worry about the thought police removing everything I like off of streaming for being percieved as 'offensive'.

^Unless you download Nazi stuff or something, no “thought police” will intervene when it comes to your streaming choices.

You're wrong, I still remember when Hulu removed an episode of The Golden Girls called "Mixed Blessings" where Dorothy's son who was white married a black woman and neither families were happy about the marriage. Despite the episode making some very good points about why racism is wrong it was almost banned because of one lame joke that alluded to blackface when Rose and Blanche walked into the living room with mud on their faces and curlers in their hair.

Eventually they did put the episode back on Hulu but I guess that'll teach old white ladies not to offend people with their beauty treatments.

I thought you meant the “thought police” would determine what you are able to stream, as an individual.

If it's a movie or TV show I know I won't like, then I won't watch it.

I felt really bad that I found the first season of Survivor boring, I knew it was something that I was supposed to love and be totally amazed by but I just didn't feel it

Only if it falls into a broader category of interest for me, and even then, not often. For example, I probably have to either watch Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, or stop telling anyone that I like Dungeons and Dragons, because at the mention, that is all anyone wants to talk about, whether they're interested themselves or not But I'm really only interested in a subset of things within Dungeons and Dragons, and the movie really doesn't seem particularly interesting to me. I do not, however, feel the need to watch something just because other people say it's good. It has to fall in my exact area(s) of interest, I've been disappointed too many times by things that are in a broader category, that people expect me to have seen/enjoyed if I'm interested in anything else in that category. Something that holds no interest to me whatsoever? Not in the slightest.
