I’m ashamed to learn this is a Canadian product. :(

Mostly because it, and all it’s derivatives, are f’n gross.

Why anyone wouldn’t spend an extra couple dollars for Stolichnaya is completely beyond me. Seriously. Smirnoff is harsh and nasty and all the flavoured ones taste harsh and nasty with very artificial flavouring. The premixed drinks are sickly sweet.

Who keeps these bozos in business, anyways? And WHY? :?

Never heard of that before. Where is it from?

Smirnoff is common, but garbage. I just assumed Smirnoff is sold everywhere. I also assumed it was ruussia's crappiest export. Only recently learned its a Canadian product.

They could make it on the international space station and it would still be garbage.

8O

HUGE difference.

Some are silky smooth to drink, like Belvedere, others go down like gasoline. (Smirnoff!)

IMO, the best overall value for high quality for a relatively low price is Stolichnaya. Absolut is pretty good for the $, too. But Smirnoff is just gross. There are other cheap vodkas close in price to Smirnoff that are better than Smirnoff, even if they're not great.. they're still better lol - almost anything is. Silent Sam, Polar Ice.. Smirnoff is harsh. It's good for starting fires I guess.

Prince Igor is $46 / 1.14L (smaller than picture), so I think it's about the same as Stoli.

I don't know where it's from but I like it.

Smirnoff is nasty.

I just looked up Prince Igor and it is technically available for sale at BC liquor stores but it’s only in stock at 4 stores whereas Stoli is in 196 stores.

A 1.14L Stoli is $41.49 but that’s probably plus tax & deposit so about $46-47 as well.

Googled who makes Prince Igor vodka since it’s also a Canadian product and it’s made by Forty Creek, who make decent whiskey.

I don't recall seeing Stoli here very often, but it is nice.

Don't start me on Bacardi rum lol -- even worse than Smirnoff, although I don't like rum regardless.

30 years ago Bacardi & coke was one of the most popular high balls around. My parents and their friends (especially their friends) would drink a lot of them.

I’ve rarely drank Bacardi so I can’t even remember what it tastes like. And I don’t drink pop - like 1 can of Dr. Pepper every 2-3 years kind of thing. Almost all alcohol I buy I just sip straight, no mix/ice/water etc, so when I buy rum I buy one of a handful of different brands that I know taste good to just drink straight out of the bottle.

Well...it has a Russian name. So it cant possibly come from Russia. Thats all I know. Like the Ginzu knife is as American as apple pie. There is no such word in the Japanese language as "ginzu". There is "Ginza district", and there is "kudzu" the plant. But not "ginzu".

Hmmmm..... .. am aclimated to Smirnoff triple distilled was not aware of other ingrediants in the distillation.
big deal , got No hangovers from it ! ..Bacardi always gave hangovers . Stoly tasted aweful to me Finlandia originally tasted pretty reasonable . Wish companies never started flavouring their liqours with hints of flavour .
It really has been quite awhile since i have tried any liqour or beer type drinks . Not particularily good for brain development ..but having too many neural synaptic triggers going on at any given time . Can see their might be a calming benefit . Am pretty much now a socialdrinker and do that pretty rarely , unless perfect situations .And only certain people . Good Scotch has a very viable flavour ,if judged after the third sip while rolling it off the tongue.
But vodka does not have much in the way of flavour to me usually . Father drank Smirnoff...go figure could it be heredity ? If you have list of possible contaminants in Smirnoff please let me know. It has been my go to for years .
Let it be known that no implication is meant in this post to promote anyone consuming alchohol unless in tincture for for distilling medical supplement . And i still keep a once of bootleg 120 proof , that used to be 6 onces 10 years ago.
And not a real user anymore nor a advocate of the stuff .

Agreed. Smirnoff if just :eew: There is nothing okay about that stuff.

If I'm going the cheap vodka route, absolut is the winner. I'd go for citron if I wanted it with some juice. If I was feeling a white russian, I'd go plain since it's really the Kahlua and heavy cream that make the drink anyway. My two cents.

Why would I have a list of contaminants in Smirnoff? :?

I don’t need a mass spectrometer analysis to smell & taste it and know it’s harsh and nasty compared to other vodkas.

Heavy cream for a White Russian? I’ve only ever made, or seen them made, them with milk - 2%, 1%, whatever’s around. I don’t drink milk or White Russians though. But I’ve never ever had a White Russian drinker request it be made with cream. Black Russians are more my style. 8)

We like Grey Goose too, but it has a bad association with something in the past so we don't buy it.

It's also pretty expensive. This is only 750 ml.

Grey Goose is good but for a similar price point I’d way rather have Belvedere. It’s better IMO and I believe Grey Goose is only a better seller due to marketing -> same reason Smirnoff sells at all.

But at least Grey Goose and Belvedere are actually both top tier vodkas.
