I have always been a numbers, follow the rules type of person. I have never been able to draw and have never thought I had an artistic bone in my body, then one day 6 months ago a friend? introduced me to a tatto gun and within a month I had bought a kit. That was it for me since then I have been reading watching dvds, miami ink show, and have basically taught myself how to tattoo safely and have been overwhelmed with the results that I achieved, just tattooing myself and a couple of my ladies friends.
Does anybody else do things this way. Most things that i do are completely self taught. Taught myself how toplay golf, starting handicap was 25 and within 2 years was playing off 12. I never knew why I could not go and ask for help, fear of rejection I suppose until my daughter was diagnosed with Aspergers and then suddenly realised that she thought like me and I like her. It was then I realised how much Aspergers was a part of my life and there was a reason as to why I am the way I am.

If you've taught yourself to tattoo and are now tattooing people, hopefully you've also learned about sterilization, cross contamination, blood-borne pathogens etc ?

Hey king_mob, yes I am aware of these things as I use single use needles that are sterilised and packaged to the correct standards, I dispose of my needles in sharps bin that I have purchased I am very thorough in cleaning the skin as well as keeping myself clean using anti microbal soaps etc. gloves everything is basically disposable that comes into contact with the skin. I consider myself very clean. It is also interesting that you are from newy as I am also in the lower hunter.

Yes, please thoroughly learn blood-related safety. I'm fairly heavily tattooed and hate to see safety and cleanliness-related problems in tattoo shops, or sensationalistic news stories about a hepatitis scare that originated from a dirty tattoo. This will only go away when all tattooers get their sanitation in order and work safe.
Also, it's a tattoo machine. Only newbies call it a gun
And post some pictures somewhere. I'm sure we'd all love to see.

Thanks for being concerned as an aspie i have read a lot of information regarding blood contamination sterilization and general cleanliness I am not tattooing to make money just the enjoyment of learning a new hobbie. If I don't feel well have a cold, flu etc I wont tattoo anybody. I am fully aware of the risks should I add that I am 41 years old electrician by trade and spent 5 years working in hospital theatres as a sparky. The machine is not a gun you are correct in the industry they are called irons. I would love to show some pics of my art where can I display them I have been on this site since yesterday when I found out about wrong planet.

Are you good? If you've got talent I'd say open your own shop - make something of it :D

Flickr is a pretty good photo site that lets you have up to 200 pictures posted for free. If you need more than 200 you can buy a "pro" account for about $20 a year. There's tons of people on there posting tattoo pics.
While we're on the subject... here's my right arm. It was done by an artist here in Philadelphia named Dave Fox about two years ago. I've known him for quite a while and have a good level of trust in him. I made the appointment and told him to just draw whatever he wanted. He spent about two hours drawing on my arm with a marker then about 8 hours over two visits doing the tattooing:

That,s awesome dude I love the colours and the artwork is great. My goal is to be able to do large frehand tattoos I have done one small tribal butterfly freehand on my partner it is ok but I am also very critical of my own work. A bit of a perfectionist.. I will post photos today and let everyone knowwhen they are up. Thanks for the info. Have a great day....
