Red Gyarados does not count.

It can be a catch from a random encounter, a hatch from an egg, or a trade.

A long time ago when I played Pokemon Crystal, I got a free egg from the daycare and it hatched into shiny Magby.

A wild yellow Lickitung, I think in Soul Silver. Having played at least one version of every set before then and never seen a shiny, it definitely caught me by surprise.

despite playing since gen 2 I didn't find a legit shiny until ORAS, i found a shiny wingull while EV training a milotic. since then I've found at least one full odds shiny in every new game so i guess my luck turned around.

A shiny gulpin I found in one of those hoard encounters in X and Y. I named it shiny and showed it to my friend who seemed way less excited about it than I did. Then I felt guilty about being excited then I traded it away for a bagon on the GTS.

I've been playing Pokémon since I was a kid and yet my first shiny Pokémon is a shiny Tentacool I caught in Pokémon Crystal back in March.

Full odds too, which makes it even more special to me.

I nicknamed it Shinycool because I am very uncreative.

Either a shiny Torkoal in Emerald, or a shiny Pansage on my first day playing Y--I can't remember which I came first.
