What kind of examples do you have of people that did great in school and badly in getting jobs?

Everyone here, I'm guessing.

I have a BA from an Ivy League university but was unable to get hired as a dishwasher. Also as administrative-assistant-type jobs. I did work a bit as a teacher but most of my jobs were retail cashier. That was years ago before I became too disabled to work (unrelated to autism).

What is failure? Who has the right to tell you that you failed?

I did great at school to begin with, then got gradually worse and worse, but by an immense struggle passed most of my final exams. Then I just fell into a job (I cunningly picked something that was probably somewhat below my true potential, so they snapped me up), did pretty well in it, and left it after about 15 years. Then after a year or two I just fell into another job, didn't do quite so well but was considered by some to be a credit to the workplace, and stayed there for over 20 years before voluntarily retiring. There was good and bad in every phase of my school and work experience, but overall I rate it as bad, apart from those first few years at school which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Me. I excelled at school but i am a failure at my job

I was a relative failure at school. I started well but then went downhill academically when I was 9. Job wise I was worse than a failure, as I never had paid employment to fail at.

I am underemployed. Sometimes I look at it as a failure and sometimes I look at it as a grand success. I am not sure what it would look like to be (self-)employed at a greater capacity, assumedly with greater confidence on my part and support on others part. I would love to set up an ASD-friendly work environment, but am fearful as it's a chore to employ myself... but I dream of creating doable employment for others since I have the experience that it can be done (an ASD person hired me and gave me a start). I recently was a bridge so that two neurodiverse friends have contract jobs, but the team is outside my control and toxic, so they won't thrive there and will survive at best for a bit.

School & employment are two very different things.

School is there to serve you, they can go out of there way to accommodate problems you have

Employment you are there to serve the employers needs efficiently and have to compete with others who may not have to deal with the same issues as you, making them more hireable and better employees overall.

I found this out the hard way been hired and fired many times because of my autism issues, was very brutal experience.

I had trouble in school AND was unemployed for years. My current job I'm actually doing good at. My main problem is getting overstimulated easily.

I was the all star in GED classes, I already knew the stuff they taught, it was effectively just a refresher course. They had me helping the others in the class because I was doing so well.
I suspect the difficulty level for GED classes is lower than actual high school, but ye.

I did great in elementary school. I went to a gifted and talented school. I half a**ed jr. high and high school (when I was there) and still did fine grade wise. When I went to university, I had a solid 4.0 (before I got too overwhelmed and stopped going for good). Did any of that help me land a good paying job or work I could handle? Nope. I burn out fast and most always worked low skill jobs. I'm on disability now. Lucky for me that I never have cared much about material items, status, wealth, things like that. Don't get me wrong, sometimes it does bother me. But on the whole, it doesn't get me too down for too long.

I struggled in regular school because of bullying but did well once.I was in homeschool. I graduated with high honors from my college. I thought that meant.I was going to do well.working. That was very much Not the case. Until I was put.on disability I had this pattern of doing ok for.a.little.while.then having major issues. Stop working be in a bad place.for.a.long time.then try again.

Did well at junior school despite getting bullied when we moved house. Did poorly on my secondary school exams but got into technical college. Just about passed that and got a job as an electronics technician for a couple of years. Then steadily downhill ever since.
