Why is it that some people still keep advocating and pushing this idea that a man MUST have make lots of money, own and drive a fancy fast car and be extremely successful already in his early life. I seem to think that it probably makes other men like me feel like an ''unlikable nobody'' and a ''failure'' if we don't follow that route in life. Especially if we don't do careers in business or set up our own and just instead go into jobs in places like supermarkets, retail stores etc. I mean I never wanted to career in business despite doing some business studies at school and my car is certainly not fancy but is fast and instead I still work for somebody instead rather than being the boss of a business myself.

Despite having been in a job for a number of years, for some reason I still feel like I am ''nothing'' and I don't know why. I seem to feel that if I were to wear a suit or a nice blazer, shirt, trousers and shoes to my job I would feel like a ''somebody'' whereas for my job I have to wear black trousers and a blue polo shirt and a blue jumper (when its cold).

I only advocate gainful employment, reliable transportation, and living in comfort. Although I assume that "gainful employment" would seem like "making lots of money" to someone who has never accomplished either.

I've never heard that.
I have a brother and two sons.
I must have missed the memo.

Ah well, looks like I didn't make it and never will.

Why would anyone need their car to go faster than the speed limit?
Would they be expected to drag race on dates?

I've never heard or been told that. Maybe you are fixated on things you don't have or want vs. what you have?

The only thing I have heard that is similar to that is that guys who drive flashy cars have small penises - but I don't think thats true either.

Are women expected to have lots of money and fast cars too?

As for your work clothes, I think you could rock them with nice footwear. I like when men flash some patterned socks with black trousers. Do you have nice shoes? A nice watch? Anything that adds a little to the look?

Isn't this life already messed up as it is without this kind of peer pressure/demand?
