In UK railway stations we have ticket gates where you can either (1) place a barcode ticket (e.g., on your phone or on paper) over a pane of glass that reads it, (2) place your credit card over a separate credit card reader, or (3) insert a physical rail ticket into a slot where it is read.
An example of what I am talking about is below.
I often have barcode tickets on my smartphone, and a few weeks ago I placed my smartphone over the credit card reader by accident, instead of over the barcode reader.
After that my touchscreen wouldn't work for about half an hour (half an hour later it was fine though).
Does anyone have any idea what might have happened here?
