Food Fights Are Among the Dumbest NT Behaviors

I've always thought that food fights are among the stupidest behaviors (that fall under the category of "harmless").

I witnessed some at college in the dorm cafeteria. I could never understand how anyone could engage in such ridiculous behavior. I would think, "Food is for EATING, not throwing at people!"

You couldn't have PAID me enough to participate in such moronic behavior.

I'd like to think that such behavior is way below any autistics and if any autistics ever DID get in a food fight, they must've been part of what they believed was a survival-ship degree of masking.

But internally, they certainly thought it was the dopiest thing they'd ever done.

If someone had thrown food at me OUT OF MALICE, I'm pretty sure I would've smacked them if they were close enough, but if they were at the next table, I'm not sure if I would've gone over and tip their chair to make them tumble out, or if I would've walked over with a glass of water and poured it on their head. But that would've been it. Game over; I would've left.

Food fights are done for fun, though, not out of hostility, so if anyone would've thrown food at me during a bona fide food fight, I would've recognized they were just trying to have fun. In THAT case I would've just left.

I'd see all these college kids going wild while food was flying through the air, and I could never wrap my head around what the appeal was. This nonsense also occurs at social functions post-college age, and it pops up from time to time on sitcoms (I always fast-forward or change the channel).

Who's with me on this? I sure hope that my fellow auties would never sink this low.

yes, food is precious to me, I'd NEVER waste it like that. Plus it would make me all messy and smelly, I don't like that WHATSOEVER.

I started a food fight once. It's the only one I've ever been in and besides the people who were in that food fight, I've never known anyone else to have been in one. My reason for starting it was this; my household was tense. There was some less than ideal stuff going on and my kids were impacted by it and they were all quite crabby. Someone suggested to me that a food fight might be a fun way for everyone to blow off some steam, and I agreed. I made a ton of spaghetti and at one point during dinner I looked at my oldest daughter and grinned, picked up a fist full of spaghetti and hurled it across the table at her. From there it was on and within five minutes everyone was laughing and having a blast. My dining room was destroyed, and I had sauce stains on the ceiling for a year. Cleaning up the kids was funny to as we went in the yard and hosed the crap out of each other in the name of removing the ick. But it all did work to alleviate the tension in the house. Everyone was instantly in a better mood and that better mood stuck. Doubt I'd do it again, but it was totally worth it back then. It was actually a lot of fun.

Not actually had a food fight as such but I like being messy with food just because I like to see the absolute horror on people's faces.

I did once throw a full Macdonalds cola (ice and all) in a guys face on the bus just because he pissed me off. It was just an impulse reaction.

Usually when people are having food fights I always manage to be hit with something.

I remember one time at school these stupid girls were throwing food at each other in the cafeteria, and I was on the next table chatting with some friends, when something hit me in the back of the head and when I touched my head with my hand I felt my hair covered in noodles and sauce. I got upset and walked out of the cafeteria.

Another time at school these boys in my art class were throwing food at each other while the teacher had nipped out, and a sandwich went flying at my head while I was trying to work. They all pointed and laughed at me, and I felt so embarrassed.

Dont get embarrassed. Get even! Retaliate!

I need my food, it's hard to keep going if I don't eat regularly, so I'd never waste any of it. And woe betide anyone who touches or wastes my food. I fear for their life if they do.

Sort of off-topic, but not quite: How does anyone feel when if you're out to eat with a group, someone asks for a sample of your food? I find this obnoxious. People expect others to give up some of their dessert, in particular. This is so expected in some areas that if only one person in a group orders dessert, the server might place it in the center of the table and bring several plates and forks. The patron would have needed to request bringing the slice of cake or whatever directly before them. It's weird how people (presumably all NT) will ask for "just a little bite" of someone's dessert, but won't ask for "just a little bite" of someone's salad, mashed potatoes or salmon (or maybe they will?) Seems to be primarily a dessert issue.

You've still got plenty of room for dessert; it's placed before you (imagine your favorite dessert: chocolate layer cake? brownie with fudge and ice cream? strawberry shortcake?), and someone (NOT your parents; they get a pass) asks for a sample. What would you say?

I'd imagine the response would be different if the asker is someone you hardly know or a coworker, vs. your dear sister or your grandmother.

It's years since I went out to a meal but yes I'd hate that. Maybe I'd say I had a cold and it would be safer for them not to eat my food!

That's one thing people didn't do during covid anyway!

I've never seen a food fight. Guess I haven't lived a privileged life. I've never thrown something at people either unless you count playing catch. What's the deal with throwing stuff? Don't people realize that they have to clean up after? I absolutely hate cleaning so I'm always careful not to even drop a crumb.

I've only seen it happen at school. Most adults I know would think it's childish.

Kids in a college dorm cafeteria don't care that they create extra messy work for cafeteria staff or the building's janitorial crew. I just can't picture a bunch of autistics engaging in this behavior. And I just want to emphasize again: These food fights are done for fun, though it's always possible that the trigger was a malicious dumping of Coke on someone's head.

The thing about throwing a beverage into someone's face, out of hostility, is that you don't risk getting hauled into court to pay the medical cost of a broken nose or two missing teeth. But that can start a "fun" food fight for all the people at that table or in the room.

Another thing that I think is really stupid, and I mean MUY ESTUPIDO (I took Spanish in high school) is when a bride stuffs a huge chunk of cake into the groom's mouth to the point it gets smeared on his face, or they do it to each other simultaneously, at the wedding reception. Where did this ridiculous, idiotic custom originate?

Last year I attended my niece's wedding, and I kept thinking, "Please, don't let her sink so low as to do the cake stuffing nonsense."

I've never witnessed a food fight in real life, only in movies. I agree they're stupid and wasteful.

I grew up with Tiswas and am of the belief that custard flans are for flinging, not eating.

Yeah the fantom flan flinger. You can't whack it.

They don't make childrens shows like that anymore. I mean image locking kids in cages and throwing buckets of water on them these days.
