Why would it be? Obsessive specialization required to research ever more complex science? You'd need to get lucky that those obsessions ended up where you need them, which is far from guaranteed. Also, the difficulty in interacting with others would make the cooperation needed to achieve the really big projects particularly hard. It might not actively hinder overall, but I don't think ASDs are essential, and they might even be harmful if the numbers increase.

no I don't see how it is necessary at all, but I CAN see how milder forms of it can help better our current society (everyone always fails to bring up the full blown Kanner autistics that can't even take care of themselves)
