This is in an alley sanctioned by the city for graffiti. It’s also an alley that’s had all its power poles, lines, and old fire escape stairs and things preserved vs stripped and replaced with modern versions Because it is used specifically for the film industry to be a location double for an alley in any American/world city.

Anyways, Ken did this Mona Lisa behind bars from memory with nothing but spray paint and his hands. Pretty creative. 8)

Here’s another piece about 15’ away he started and will get back to finishing - the guy leaning against the wall, one of his signature characters I’ve seen in drawings, paintings, and murals.

Here’s the man himself posing as his character:

This was just after 3am last night while we were waiting for the pizza place around the corner to heat up a few slices for us. I also snapped a few pics of Ken working on one of the paintings I commissioned him to do in the hallway outside his room - but not sure I’m gonna ever post any of those photos, maybe just show people in person as he didn’t know I snapped a few in progress pics and not sure he wants his hallway/home shown anywhere.

I know, people here have no idea who Ken Foster is or his art so probably ~zero replies to this thread.. but w/e; I’m having fun with the late night visits and stories and laughs. He’s delivered 2 out of 6 paintings in this batch so far, then I have several other commissions to take to him for myself/friends etc. He’s super well known locally. There’s a book about him and his art, a documentary etc. He’s known as “Vancouver’s Van Gogh,” for a reason.. crazy good artist. Paints pictures, murals, stuff for the film industry, VW vans, almost anything. He’s obviously not as globally well known and isn’t making Millions, but hanging with Ken and seeing his art come together is the local scale equivalent to hanging out with Banksy or something. Definitely having some cool experiences and making memories in this whole process of keeping tabs on his progress on the pieces I’m going to gift to my friend and his family for Christmas.

Also, I have no idea why he painted the Mona Lisa behind bars not what art crime she committed. Possibly identity theft ?? Seeing as some believe “she,” was a da Vinci self portrait.

Edit: Was neat to hear some of the stories of people coming to find Ken to buy paintings. It’s difficult to get in touch when he’s not online and doesn’t really have a phone number. One time a group of huge men came asking for him.. uh-oh they thought for a moment.. lol nope turns out it was a bunch of pro football plays that love his stuff and we’re trying to track him down to buy paintings. Hah! Another time he said he was walking by a big pub patio a few blocks away and there were people there holding a sign “Looking for Ken Foster,” and he does a double take and is like uuuuh, wut? I’m not missing lolol that was just their only way of trying to find him to get him to paint for them. Just gotta go close to his home base and cross your fingers he wanders by, possibly in the middle of the night seeking city road crew signs to paint on hahahaha.

I asked him about a particular spot in the city and he’d never heard of it or seen it because he only ever goes 4 blocks from home in any direction. Now I know I have to take him there and take photos and get him to paint his first iteration of that particular spot for me. 8)
