Yeah a Sony Walkman. It was the first and last time I ever wore headphones outdoors. I must have been going through a phase.

Did have a budget one which played cassettes. Rarely used it as walking with listening to music wasn't easy! :D

I've owned two of them, along with a few portable CD players. I think I still have one of each, although they'd be in a junk chest.

I used to have one that played cassettes, and then one that played CD's.

I always preferred the cassettes since they never skipped, even if you dropped or fumbled the machine, which was important when I was growing up especially since I used public transport daily.

Yes, they had portable CD players. They called them Discmans.

Yeah, Discman was Sony's portable, but I'm pretty sure mine were all other brands.

I might actually have an early one that has a mute button to be polite.

I had a cassette tape Walkman and a CD Walkman.

I think I still have them somewhere.

My mother still has an Eight Track player and tapes.

when i was stationed at fort sam houston [san antonio tx] i bought one of the very first sony discmans sold, in san antonio texas, in march of 1985. people in my army barracks were going "ooohh aaahhh" at it. i played the 1812 overture on it on a high quality pioneer boombox that put out serious bass for a boombox back in the day. it couldn't handle the cannon shots except if i turned the volume way down. i still have a functioning walkman from back in the day, i use it when the power goes out so i can hear news and information.

I not only remember what a Walkman is, but I still have one. I still have tapes for it, too. But occasionally it would pull out and try to eat the ribbons in the tapes, which was the bane of my listening existence until the 2010s, at least.

Having to fast forward when you wanted to skip a song or rewind when you wanted to hear it again was also a pain.
