Ahem! :santa: :rendeer:

It has come to my attention that Americans don't know how to pull a Christmas Cracker. Outrageous.

This is the correct way:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAq6YzBBJBc

And the competitive way:

NOT LIKE THIS: :shameonyou:

(btw Brits aren't 'fuming', we're just amused/surprised  )

Happy to be of service! :P

^Don't underestimate how many of our countryfolk are perpetually on the brink of apoplexy, ready to be tipped over the edge by clickbait news stories.

But yes, those crazy Americans.

Im a Yank so...

Never hard of a Christmas cracker.

Never heard of pulling one.

So...huh? Its like a cross between a wishbone, a tiny pinata and a Chinese fortune cookie?
You pull it and get a bubble wrapper type joke written inside?

Kinda cute custom I guess.

I think it originated with a wrapped bon bon, the inventor or his son thought of putting a snap in it, and it's been popular ever since.

It's fun and silly, very good at Christmas when you're a bit tipsy. The one who 'wins' is the one who gets the longer part of the cracker with the joke, paper hat and some kind of silly gift. An American friend told me his family get competitive and run round the room trying to get the best gift. Which isn't the point but it might be fun.

It's amazing that things I think are universal turn out to be just British. We are a pretty silly country, thank goodness.

I just bought our Christmas crackers.
It's serious business in my family.
Form, function, and good toys all play a role.
Gotta love the paper hats too.

PS Love doing wishbones too.

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without Christmas crackers.

Exactly. Seeing who can pull hardest on the cracker, laughing at very silly jokes, wearing silly hats and playing the silly games you get in a cracker.

It just adds to the merriment!

I was responding to your assertion that Brits weren't fuming, merely amused.

In our house we pull crackers just before we eat Christmas lunch and you have to keep your paper hat on the entire meal.

It's the law.

That's because Christmas crackers aren't a thing in America. It's just not part of our culture. Heck, I didn't even know what they were until I was in my twenties.

It definitely is the law! We do the same. In that film clip, the guy says his parents made them wait to pull the crackers til after dessert? What?? No!!

^^This is something I only learned yesterday! I thought everyone had crackers, well the English speaking countries anyway.

You must immediately rectify this! At once!

That reminds me, I haven't pulled a wishbone since I was a child! I forgot about them!
