Do I have to pretend to be super political?

It seems like the local LGBT community where I live is super political. I’d describe myself as a wishy washy liberal, which is apparently a red flag. Most people I meet tend to describe themselves as communists and anarchists. I just feel super wishy washy on issues they have a strong stance on. Usually when I’m around them I get worried about saying the wrong thing. I’m nowhere near being a conservative or libertarian either.

You don't HAVE to discuss politics with anyone. If you don't feel comfortable talking about a particular issue, and you WANT to know what the other person thinks, you can always encourage them to tell you more. Most people will happily talk quite a bit about their own views without you needing to say anything at all.

There should be a political affiliation that is "Who f****n' Cares?", maybe you can be the first, emphasizing complete disinterest in politics, non-cooperation and non-opposition to other groups

Be tougher! Hang it in front of your door to tell them not to bother you

No, don't do that. It's exhausting and imo very unhealthy. Living and breathing politics will kill your mental health.

Communism is a political system that includes tenets such as the forcible central planning of an economy, which always results in disaster because such planning inevitably becomes too complex/cumbersome/costly and state monopolization is a sure way to create inefficiencies.

If only the pesky capitalists would let communism succeed, lmao.

Capitalism is bad, communism is worse.

A mixed economy is the true nature of most wealthy nations.

It doesn't take a genius to work these things out, which makes you wonder what the heck the western commies are thinking?

I don't think you should feel obliged to lie. You don't have to get dragged into discussions you're not interested in. If people insist on being pushy to discuss politics, sometimes it's easier to just remain disinterested.

Not that I don't sympathize with people who see wishy-washy liberalism as a red flag, just that you shouldn't feel compelled to engage on the topic.

I wouldn't "pretend" to be political just to fit in. Pretending you think or are something just to fit in just ends up with those relationships feeling empty.

It's understandable to be hesitant to bring up one's political beliefs in general, let alone if everyone around you seems opinionated and self-certain. If you're worried about them pouncing on you for saying something "wrong", then you might want to reconsider hanging around these people. If they're judgmental and performative, they might just not be the best people to hang around. It might be a good idea to try to talk to a member of this group that you feel most like you can trust--or at least one you feel won't judge you for being politically uncertain. If you still worry, remember: none of those people were born leftists; they decided on their beliefs most likely gradually over several years; many were raised to believe socialism is straight up evil and only changed their mind recently; some of them might be hesitant like you, but do not state disagreement or confusion for fear of backlash.

I, like the people you mentioned, am also a queer commie/anarchist. Socialism/communism/the left in my experience appeals to more queers than capitalism/conservatism do. There's no shortage of exceptions though.
If you're politically uncertain, then do some research. I realize that's easier said than done but yeah. "Queer politics", "radical queerness", "queer socialism", or things like that would be good places to start. Or just try to have a patient, non-judgmental conversation with a friend. Hell, you could dm me if that works. I won't judge.

there's nothing more i hate than extremists who turn their nose up at levelheaded people. you have to remember the anarchists are the fringe ones, not you. personally id avoid polar political topics and if that's not good enough for some ppl then i feel like they'd be annoying to have to deal with as friends anyway...

For most of my adult life, I was mostly conservative until Trump came along. Now, I'm probably center left but TBH I've quit politics these days, as I see it as a charade and a waste of time.
