Our scene is a smoky bar, with various disgusting drunkards. Each an example of the lowest common denominator of humanity. No one notices as a new patron steps in and seats himself, despite his rather unique appearance and form.

He is wearing well maintained clothes in a garish mix of black and white and his fingers are covered in rings, the largest with a set ice blue stone. And two large five shot revolvers in low slung holsters that look like they could blast holes in cement.

But these things alone don't attract attention. His body should however. He is a skeleton - there isn't a piece of flesh on his body. He is a Lich, a classification usually limited to spoony mages that become obsessed with acquiring power.

Instead he carries himself like a gunman, his empty sockets constantly aware of the environment around him.

The bartender calmly walks up and speaks with thick accented English "Su whas your storie?"

The lich raises his head in a move that looks like a mild smile. "Never hire a wizard with a stutter to perform life lengthening magiks." His voice is rough and dominating, echoing a life of battle. "Her soul is in this ring with a very angry, sexual demon. And I can use her soul to perform all kinds of magical fun."

He strokes the ring a little and goes on. "Name's Varlan. Professional gun for hire and expert on ice magic and celerity. (Extreme Speed)" He lights a smoke sticks between his jawbones, how he enjoys it is a mystery.

"I'm looking to hire a few good fighters to help me with a job I have to do, you know where I can find some good mercs?"

"Mighta knunw a whule agu but itz seemed tu slwip me mind."

Varlan seemed disgusted but passes the tender a dollarbill.

"Uhhh, there's a place duwntuwn that hiaires out all kindsa surts."

"Good"

Varlan left the bar and weaved through the various streets, he really didn't have a new job lined up. It was a case of revenge, that damn vampiress had tricked him and he would have her soul in a ring like the last woman to get in his way.

He entered the merc post and punched the sleeping man at the desk. "I need to hire some help you sleepy f**k."

And this is where our tale begins......

SIGN UP SHEET

NAME
AGE
APPEARANCE
SEX (M or F)
ALIGNMENT
PERSONALITY
ITEMS
MAGICAL ABILITIES (If any, characters tend to focus on controlling one element, like fire or earth. there are no predefined spells in that sense)

The technology level is equal to today's world. There are guns, cars, nukes and computers. Anything you could get today.

My character

Name: Varlan (Last name has been lost)

Age: Unknown

Appearance: He is a skeleton that wears a black stetson with a black poncho. He wears a simple white T-shirt and white pants. Wears black cowboy boots. Gloves on both hands that are covered in rings.

Sex: Was male before his transformation
Alignment: Lawful Evil

Personality: Arrogant with a side of misogynistic due to his poor experiences with women. He is a sharp man who prefers to shot first and ask questions later, though he rarely raises his guns without thinking. He prefers to use the magic he has gained by the ring containing the tortured wizards soul. He is extremely vengeful and never forgets being betrayed.

Items: A pair of .500 grain revolvers with five shots each. And about a dozen ring, each holding a little of his soul (If his body is destroyed he regenerates within about a day) and the largest ring contains a stone with the soul of wizard responsible for his being a lich, along with a demon to taint the magic, while wearing the ring he can use her soul to control and generate ice and for bursts of extreme speed.

Magical Abilities: Though he is not a wizard himself he is capable of ice magic through his ring. Usually making small stakes and throwing them with an overhand flick or using them held in his knuckles while he punches. The demon in the ring taints the ice, rendering him capable of breaking most "holy" magical barriers. He is also capable of celerity for brief periods of time, drawing one of his guns and firing all shells in less then two seconds or "blinking" (appearing to move instantly a short distance but really running faster then light), though this power is draining on the ring and he uses it rarely.

=======================

Remember, each of you is a merc. You work for money and are hired by me to serve me in my latest and most difficult revenge killing.

We'll start once I approve four characters.

Dang, all these RPs are morbid and dark. I like to make silly, rather useless characters... the comic relief as such. I played a drunk bum in a Call of Cthulhu roleplaying group... they found my character quite annoying.... They tend to clash in these dark settings... when everything is ultra-serious

I don't think a dark setting is necessarily unwelcoming of comic relief. To the contrary, really--it requires it! This setting especially seems like it would be ideal for such a character idea, to me.

Aye, still remember that moment from FF2.

"YOU SPOONY BARD!"

And I really would like some comic relief.

Varlan is dark and he needs a sort of counterweight in my opinion.

Yeah, it depends on how far I go with it I guess... and just how serious it is.

It's usually a vindictive GM that really hates that my character disrupts the delicate mood they are setting... and they fact that these characters are quite useless and end up having "unfortunate" deaths.

Perhaps I can think up something that could fit in here...

That pic (and this topic) reminds me of a Prince character I played in a Game of Thrones RPG (I did not read the books, my friends did)... he was pompous and aloof and very much a dandy... and was suddenly forced to lead. That character was funny... and worked very well in that setting... (which I was told was very dark and dreary).

Your character can only die if you want him to.

And if you want him to stay useful give him an interesting skill.

NAME Dissonus (his assumed name. His real name is Bartholomew Brandon Damon, but he has distanced himself from that name, see below)

AGE About 22

APPEARANCE Like a younger, and nerdier, version of Dwight McCarthy. Green eyes. Stubble.

SEX Male

ALIGNMENT Good, but somewhere between lawful and chaotic.

PERSONALITY Knowledge hungry, he comes from a family (The Damons, a derivative of 'Daemon') that specialises in the study of demonology. However, he has had a schism with his own family, who merely observe demons and do little about them (except occasionally teaching demons hunters, or even occasionally going power hungry and using them). He has a sad, nearly nihilistic view on life, but always tries to do something of it, and is fairly altruistic (if self-serving). Thus he has broken one of his family's greatest laws (non-intervention), and they are authorised to kill him, should they wish. So far, he is yet to be officially made a dead man walking, and so he is lucky. But his luck may run out. (Further culture of the Damon family below) He gets along fine with most supernatural creatures capable of sentience, providing they do not prey on the living.

ITEMS A large demon bestiary that updates itself whenever he fights an enemy (and makes a good bludgeon/shield as well). A 'weirding module' (see below).

MAGICAL ABILITIES Dissonus' family has an amount of demon blood in their ancestry, and this has given them some interesting magical abilities. Until he rejected his family, Dissonus was the wonder child, being naturally gifted with sonomancy, or sound magic. It is actually a warping of space similar to sound, triggered by high emotions. In fact, music helps focus these magic blasts, and in fact, he can also use it for both destruction (usually through spatial-concussive force) and healing (an ability he calls 'Maxwell's demon', because it reverses entropy in a small area, and costs him more energy than destructive things cost). The 'weirding module' (named after the sound gun in the David Lynch version of Dune) is a focus array that gives his abilities more power and control, although if need be, he can use his sonomancy without it.

ON THE DAMON FAMILY: While normally the name is of Greek origin, the name actually came from a family who gained much knowledge and power from a demon in Roman Britain. They called themselves the Daemon family until Christianity gained a stronghold. Then, they called themselves the family of Daymon, a name that appeared in the Domesday book. The spelling changed little, becoming Damon after some confusion in the Stuarts times. They are a fairly powerful English family, but very behind-the-scenes power. Very much unseen by much of the public and even the majority of the British government. Even MI5's file on them is thin, though they suspect them of something. MI5 and MI6's profiles of Dissonus are more substantial (he is known as a somehwat altruistic merc), but in fact the biggest file on him is held by the Royal Order of Protestant Knights (major hint to manga/anime fans here), who occasionally hire his services.

Has he met Alucard?

RP: First the little man brought out an unusual looking fellow, he had a depressed look about him/

"T-t-t-h-i-i-s-s"

Varlan drew a gun and pointed it right at the little man. "Don't sttuter, I will kill you if so much as pause on word." In shock the little man seemed to lose bowel control. "Haha. Go on"

'This is one is an expert on demons and sound magic. Or at least he says."

"I'll take him. How much?"

"550 credits."

"Alright."

A couple of times. Alucard would of course wipe the floor with Dissonus, but Dissonus would put up a hell of a fight. Alucard respects Dissonus' power, as well as his willingness to fight. I'm assuming this is well before Seras is.....recruited....

True, but then again everyone on Earth, even Chuck Norris couldn't beat him.

And yes to Seras.

Dissonus was brought out by that seedy crap of a merc-pimp, Kitson, and was amused (and disgusted) when Kitson cacked his pants when the Lich threatened him. When Kitson waddled back into the back room to persuade more, Kitson sniggered.

"Funniest thing I've seen all day, making him spend a penny in his pants. Mind you, I haven't had time to watch any of my comedy videos lately."

He looked the Lich up and down. Dissonus spent so much time learning about the various supernatural creatures, and the past three years actually meeting (and fighting) them that he knew what a Lich was.

Now here's one chap who is a bit grim. Wonder why the bugger needs mercs? Dirty business when an undead gunslinger needs hired help.

"You can call me Dissonus. I get both my old Chinas and my enemies to call me that."

((He talks in a varying English accent that varies between Recieved Pronounciation and Cockney. It started out as a deliberate attempt to fudge up his origins, but now is a little idiosyncracy....))

Strange all my friends who roleplay are heterosexual. Married and everything.

I think you are quite misinformed... using MS Paint to make lame insults is for fags.
