According to the ink blot test-- and I knew this even before the test, and could have explained it-- I'm exactly half introvert and half extrovert! This, the doctor said, was the cause of problems for me, making it more difficult for me than for someone who was just introverted or just extroverted (which I agree with in the sense that the world is a certain way and I was too slow in getting it in this respect to make up my mind whether to be introverted or extroverted)... he said I didn't have a style... that being half and half was my style... and I agreed. But on the other hand, I see half of something introverts don't see and half of something extroverts don't see. And I honestly think sometimes that I have the best of both worlds!

So are you an introvert or an extrovert, or half and half like me?

Me? Im a 100% introvert. I feel uncomfortable with small talk. The only time Im likely to communicate with someone is if I have a question about something.

I am VERY introverted. I like people but they tire me out rapidly. I prefer solitary activities and a rural peaceful lifestyle. I am good with people when I have to be around them, but I'd rather be by myself most of the time.

That describes me, too.

I recently took some personality tests for my therapist and knew as I started filling them out that it would open a can of worms- I'd have to actually talk about some stuff if I answered those questions. It's been difficult, to say the least. I don't like to talk about my real self like that!

Thankfully in real life people often like to talk about themselves so I can nod and (pretend to) listen.

Extreme introvert here. I'd say I spend 99.9% of my time not talking to anyone. I've been very quiet since the age of 14. The only time I'm not is when I'm being goofy, and that's only around people I know very well.

Being an extrovert and aspie would be very frustrating I would think.

Very introverted with the occasional phase of a day where I will talk non stop and wear myself out and need to retreat.
It is odd how much talking can drain you?

NOW, I sometimes seem extroverted. That is like a disguise I have that I had to acquire sometime in my twenties. I don't know how much I really seem so. But I am INTROVERTED! It is just an act. Deep down, I think ALL AS people, and most autistics are.

I am an introvert. By the way, those ink blot tests are nonsense. If your doctor really is wasting your time with something like that, it's probably time to find a new one.

I consider myself to be half introvert and half extrovert.

I have days where I wont say a single word to anyone (literally).
And then I have days where I will talk and talk and talk no matter if people are listening to me or not, sometimes I will even talk to myself  .

When I am at my course, I tend to be very much an introvert.
The only time when I am sometimes extroverted is at home with mother.

Firstly, Ink blot tests are rubbish, you need to get another doctor.

I consider myself an "introverted extrovert." In that I am pretty chatty and outgoing when I am interested in what is going on or what is being talked about.

oh,I am an extrovert.
I am one of those super friendly people that can not take your hints that you are done with our conversation, one of those people that continue to chat with the check out person after it is 'my turn' or even before 'my turn'. I will be the one that waves at the new training class at work, welcoming them all in a cheery voice and missing how they turn to stare and my co workers that know me or of me cringe and shrink away. . .

I am the woman dressed and acting like Cindy Lauper at the company's "80's Days" I am the huge bag of fresh spinach walking around as 'most scary and most funny" category at the Halloween dress up. I am the one that plunges ahead into the crowd and walks so fast I might be jogging just to get ahead of the pack.

I start spontaneous conversations with people on the bus, in a queue, in a shopping situation. I lost track years ago about how many people have moved away, or rolled their eyes, or just told me not to talk to them. Older women 'get' me immediately and chat back. We have a wonderful time.

Then I spend months with out coming out of my apartment except to work and shop. Not talking to anyone, eyeing people suspiciously, and not even on line. I guess I had had enough of the rejection and people thinking I am nuts.

I think it is possibly a tendency for us to be introvert but I think if you are extroverted, it must be very hard exactly because of the reasons sinsboldy put forward. I think you are so eager to want to engage with people and just be yourself and interact with the world out there, and then everyone just thinks your nutty, except of course those "older ladies" who have left all their pretences way back already ;) and enjoys just being themselves.

Being introvert offers a safe space. It labels you as shy or, at the worst, slightly eccentric, which is more bearable than weird and a bit dotty with people trying to kind of run away from you before you start talking to them, rather than what they'd do with the shy person e.g. trying to help bring them out of their shell a bit and encouraging them to engage.

A lot of love to you sinsboldly. Don't let it get you under. My only very gentle advice is this: you seem to be very aware of the impact you have on people. We all have weaknesses - mine is anger and tantrums, and being rude, for instance. Yours is that you overpower conversations. We are not different from NT's in that we have to work at our weaknesses in order to improve our own lives and those that are around us. Perhaps give others a chance to talk and really listen to them, ask them questions? It is terribly hard, I know! 'Cause one just wants to tell about your own experience! But, it would help ease the pain, and perhaps prevent that next period where you don't want to leave your apartment because of previous pain due to failed engagements.

All the best of luck.

You have THAT right! When I was 6, a psychiatrist tried that on me. Apparently his only finding was I liked girls. OK, he was right, but they DID have a shape, bumps, and protrusions to indicate that they were indian squaws. BTW I was not, and am not, interested in indians, though his method would clearly indicate I was!

I'm an introvert - a 100% introvert like Willisgirl. I become extrovertic only when I'm with the members of my family whom I know very well. I prefer thinking to talking.

I'm introvert most of the time. Even though I have this fantastic group of nerd friends, whom I like very much to be with, most of my time I spend alone and I enjoy that.

I can't talk about myself with anyone, but everybody talks with me about their problems. I hate that. I belive the only reason they do that is because all of them are masochist or just stupid. I can't hide from anyone what I'm thinking, so, most of the time I insult them, but, at first they hate me for some time, then, they all seem to like it and keep coming back for more. People are so strange!

I'm afraid (I'm not sure if that's the exact word to describe what I feel) of loud noises and crowds, which means I just a burden to go out with sometimes, so I stay home - under my desk is the best place to be - or I go to quiet places to read books. And there are those other characteristics I'm a little ashamed of having and they drive away people, so I prefer not having anythting to do with the rest of the world. But, like Graelwyn said, I have some moments when I can't stop talking just like her. Those are not extrovert moments whatsoever, they feel more like an involuntary action such as coughing and sneezing.
