One of my old friends from school who is about 5ft8 posted on Facebook today that he Went from 16 to 12 stone in the space of eighteen months.

Do you think that's an impressive amount of body mass to lose in 18 months or has anybody here done better than that?

the fast you lose mass, the greater the likelihood or rebounding to an even higher weight, so I can't say impressed is the right word..."yo-yo" weight loss isn't healthy and its not sustainable.

4 stone / 56 lbs is a significant amount of weight to lose. 18 months is a reasonable period of time for this to occur. Good on them.

I lost about 7 stone / 100 lbs in about a year in 2008. Went from nearly 21 stone / 290 lbs to around 13.5 stone / 190 lbs. Kept it off and stayed around 190 for the last 16 years.

I didn't lose much weight, but I did drop my waistline from 29 to 25 inches over a longer time span.
28 to 25 in perhaps a year.
Getting rid of the belly fat may be more a better goal as gaining muscle may offset the fat loss in terms of weight.

Good on your friend for the hard work that they've done. I wish I had that motivation.
