I'm a new member. I'm trying to post my first reply in the forum.
I've tried 10 times to post my reply to the forum thread.
Each time I hit "Submit",
the site shows me a blank page with just the text of my post at the very top. The text has all the whitespace (space and carriage returns) stripped.
When I return to the previous page, my draft message is still there, along with the "submit" button, as if I never clicked it.

What do I need to do different in order to post a reply?

Thanks.

p.s. I was able to save and reload a draft. But "submit" doesn't work.

TESTING TESTING TESTING posting the identical text

Great thread! My first post on WP, so please be kind...

Lene Lovich, I Say When

Well, I'm all revved up and ready, baby
You're a man and I'm a lady
But...
I say when to stop
Hey, I call the shots
Baby, I say when.

TESTING TESTING TESTING

Well you look plenty good to me
You got plenty of energy
I know that you're big and strong
But I'm the boss, so don't go wrong.
I say when to stop
Hey, I call the shots
Baby, I say when.

Mystery solved - I had accidentally pasted an invisible character into my post, which your system seemed to choke on. Is that glitch documented anywhere?

One also has to have over a certain number of posts before one can add a link to a post.

Some Unicode characters can cause preview or post to fail, but an error message to the effect of an illegal character being present is generated. I'm not aware of a "silent" failure of the type you've reported.

@ Cornflake

may or may not be related, but figured I'd mention anyways

Over the last several hours the website has been running unusually slow, and has periodically displayed a blank white screen rather than the requested content, needing a refresh or two before the page would display properly again.

The rest of the internet is functioning normally.

Yes - things have certainly been ridiculously slow here for most of today, including error reports from CloudFlare that the site itself is not not responding and/or failing SSL handshaking.

At one point I was finding delays of ~20 sec for simple read/preview/post actions - no blank screens (yet!), just interminable delays before a response.
Right now things seem to be approaching (what passes for) typical performance.

It's still slow. There's a thread about it: viewtopic.php?t=420396

As of now, reading/previewing/submitting is almost instant.
