Usually sleep 9pm to 4am. Sometimes, have trouble falling or staying asleep. Almost never too "busy" to sleep. Only one part time job. Zero children, zero "friends", no school, whatever. Usually, between 8 and 9am is the time that I am the most exhausted every day. At that time, I am on the train or bus to work. On days off work, 8-9am, nap. Used to wake up @ 6am a couple years ago. The older I get, 41, the earlier I wake up. Inconvenient. Exhausted all the time. Otherwise, I could work full time jobs at Taco Bell and Wendy's. Instead, just one part time at Home Depot. Constantly struggling to not eat too much and not sleep too little.

Sounds like you might have depression. That can cause fatigue. Have you been screened for that? The wanting to eat too much and sleep too little can be symptoms of depression.

Have you considered trying some kind of sleeping pill? The best ones need a prescription, like Ambien, which might not be possible for you, but you can use over the counter ones like Benadryl. For me personally, Benadryl makes me feel sleepy the next day so I avoid it, but it works for many people. There are also supplements like melatonin. From what I've read, you should take a low dose, like 1 or 2 mg about 3 to 4 hours before going to sleep.

If you sleep every night from 9pm to 4am that's not so bad, really. You're getting 7 hours and it's a regular schedule, which is good. Maybe you should consider depression as a possibility, as ProfessorJohn suggested.

Undiagnosed sleep apnoea can cause fatigue issues and is a relatively common health condition.

There is also chronic fatigue syndrome which some people have.

Obesity can cause fatigue issues, also.

All the above plus, how is your diet?

I find that when I eat what I want to eat, which is excessive amounts of sugar, bread-based stuff, cereals, chocolate etc. I have next to no energy (which is dumb, because all that extra sugary food should mean extra energy) and feel terrible in my body. Nonetheless I can live like that for months on end getting more and more depressed.

When I get a grip, reduce my calorie intake to normal levels, cut sugar/carbs right down and eat lots of fruit and vegetables and protein, I feel so much more energetic.

I'm not saying you have to do what I do. I have a messed up relationship with food so no. I'm just saying that the type of fuel you put in your body is going to affect how well it runs. Just like the quality of fuel you put in your car affects how well it runs.

Different bodies seem to have different requirements to run well, so it's a matter of noticing what makes you feel crap and what makes you feel good and try to eat more of that and less of the other.

I think it becomes more important as you get older too. I can't get away with eating like I did in my 20s anymore.

my diet: 12 servings bread group per day, 2 servings milk/yogurt per day, 5 servings of chicken/turkey/tuna, 9 servings vegetables/fruit

bread: whole wheat pita, safeway artisan bread, taro cake, "zongzi"

yogurt: greek yogurt, vanilla, soy milk

vegetables/fruit: tempeh, broccoli, frozen bananas, kimchi, fermented tofu, jalenpinos,

i don't cook, but i do not eat at restaurants, and i don't eat microwave meals either.

but i eat way too many carbohydrates too. however, if i eat fewer carbohydrates, then what do i eat more of? fruit/veg have a lot of fiber, and i have been taking bowel movements after each meal already. dairy products and meat $$$$, and i don't particularly like them.
