Fauci was hot in high school. Although I don't know what the sexual mores were like in Brooklyn in 1962, but had he been in high school when my kids were (2000s) he would most definitely not have had any trouble getting laid. And this was Brooklyn, where a teenager probably had as much of a chance of getting laid at that time as anywhere in the US.

"You know the weird theatre kids and the anime people"

Why yes, I do. That would describe me and the vast majority of people I hang out with.

Achievement unlocked: Nerd

^ I’ve been called a “nerd” on WP after I cited research about something, so I suppose it would include me too.

I don’t think being a “nerd” or being viewed as one is a bad thing although it’s harmful when the word is intended as an insult. I’ve had crushes on people who’d be considered nerds. I don’t understand the stigma. At least, there doesn’t appear to be as much stigma now as there used to be.

If would have been great if I were a nerd, because nerds are supposed to be really smart, and then I would have gotten good grades in school. I might have even enjoyed doing homework and studying. 8O

But instead I was basically all the "negative" traits of nerdom. Also most people still think nerds can't be female.

I'm much more of a d0rk than a nerd becsuse I'm an Aspie who's actually kinda bad with technology & also dumber than most NTs are. Plus I have major social awkwardness & some geeky interests.

I probably woulda been a lot more successful with life if I was more of a nerd. I woulda done a lot better in school & woulda went to college for degree in the STEM field like how the smart Aspies are stereotyped to be a poor-man Bill Gates.

Yeah... Some of the nerds at my school even wore capes during the school day. If you wanted to look weird you definitely went to the nerds table during lunch.

I generally tried to attract as little attention to myself as I could so I hid among the Koreans during lunch, they didn't seem to mind me. My goal was definitely to be less weird, not more. People already found me plenty weird as is, being both socially awkward and physically clumsy.

Midway through the junior year I moved up to the jocks table. At least one of my "social chaperones" (people I followed around at school to navigate the social situations) sat at the jocks table, and since I looked the part by then, they sort of didn't mind me there. I was tall and very good looking.

^^^My schools had strict uniform policies so the only things any students wore that made them stand out were sports jackets if they were on a school sports team, glasses(I wore thick coke-bottle glasses that still didn't help my distance vision enough), & casts if someone was injured. My lunch table was a mishmash that included a nerd, a geek, a punk, even a football player, & a couple more normal people that couldn't be defined as being part of any scene or group.

In general I don't like drawing attention to myself but I used to do lots of various things that did, especially when I was in a bad mood  :wall:

I'd rather have a nerd than an overconfident partner.

Nerds are just people who are deeply interested in stuff. Unfortunately our culture, particularly when we're young teaches us that the way to fit in is to cultivate a cool detachment. Act like everything is lame and beneath you and you won't risk standing out from the crowd.

I've always preferred people who find something in the world around them interesting.

I've always had few interests & I never been considered cool. Being cool is being involved in social things like partying, sports, fashion trends, social gossip, & making YouTube vids doing stuupid & dangerous things.
