I hate it. They are always so rough and I hate people touching my head anyway. I do not understand how people find it relaxing.

I haven't had it done in over 40 years but it was really terrible.

I can't stand anyone else touching my scalp so I hate it.
And washing usually means a hairdryer afterwards and I hate that even more.

When my hair was long (back when I still had hair), I would enjoy going to the beauty parlor with my wife to get my hair washed and trimmed.  The attendants would s-l-o-w-l-y massage my head, neck, and shoulders so well that I would sometimes fall asleep.  They would never use the electric clippers -- only scissors and razors.  They usually had some of that New Age music playing (harps and flutes, mostly), the lights were not too bright, and the place smelled good. Overall, it was always a pleasant experience.

I always ask for a dry cut. The hairdresser I go to just brushes, straightens and cuts it. I wash it, brush it and dry it myself before I go to my appointment.

I never liked how it felt on my neck (the back of the sink). Ugh. Plus the last places I went would always charge extra. Not worth it imo.

I just cut my own hair. I can't stand someone messing with me, and I don't know what facial expression to make or what to say. It's all incredibly uncomfortable. It's almost as bad as the dentist.

I only don't like whatever porcelain my neck have to lie onto.

And anything my back of my neck is reacting to; getting this tickled sensation without getting touched whenever my hair is being cut, ironed, dried, etc.

Yet and yet touching my scalp is fine.

Scratching on my scalp is also OK, so is clenching a section of my hair close to the scalp with one's fists and pull, and anything that might resembles combing onto my scalp.

Sometimes I want that sensory input without any prompt of getting itchy scalp and hairdressers and even massage therapists ain't rough enough.

Sometimes it can make me fall asleep.
As long as the back of my neck isn't getting 'triggered'. :x

The stupid funny part is that how close next to each other these two body parts are.

Boy oh boy was that a hard one...as I got older less and ability to recover from washing my own hair .But for a long time my scalp was very dry..but no flakes ...but having a bad arm , did not help those situations . So when I worked up the courage ..Went to get a trim and a shampoo. .. I only wanted a shampoo ..but I felt guilted into getting both ..
Anxiety ...upon Anxiety ....I was surprised to find she was trying to be friendly ..still Anxiety after third visit ,
I saw someone , they were speaking about whom just got a haircut .. He gave directions on how he wanted it cut .
Then I realized , that the younger fellow , had only said a few things to the haircut woman , whom I saw .
But it was a good copy of , what I had learned was a Anime character . And noticed he had very few facial expressions.
He had struck me as a possible Autistic fellow.??? Then realized he was driving, what seemed to be a brand new
Mazda..So a quite successful younger fellow, whom liked Anime ...? So I mentioned this to my haircutter ..And she seemed to relax . And had better understanding of different people , possibly? . Helped me relax then.
Next time I told about my Asperger's/ Autism....And she seemed alittle more relaxed , And , I think she is only a few years younger than me .. :D ..I thought she was older at first ..Now when I go there, I will only let her cut my hair.
Sure wish my stamina was better..But it doesn't cost too much for the amount of effort , I have to do, to shampoo my own hair ..Still causes me anxiety but , at least , I have a regular person, to go to.

I always wash my hair before I visit the hairdresser to avoid any suggestions about that. What I want is the hairdresser to cut my hair and shut up. Especially if the hairdresser is male I try to keep the balance between appearing silent in a rude way and at the same time not encourage a lot of small talk. If it's a female I find the small talk less intrusive.

I don't mind the hair washing part. It's nice for sensory reasons. It feels good, the water sprayer thing is always a perfect temperature, and they use high-end conditioners that make my hair really shiny. The best part is that you don't have to watch it happening in a mirror like the haircutting part, and you don't have to make small-talk with the person. You can close your eyes to avoid the bright lights, and you won't be able to hear whatever stupid dance music they're playing. You can only hear the water. It's the only part of the appointment I don't mind, because the mirror and small-talk part is torture for me. I don't even use mirrors in my own house.

Definitely don't like that, nope. It's been sooo long since I've gotten my hair done because of stuff like that. Ugh.

No! I don't go to the hairdressers anymore, the last time I did, she roughly scrubbed at my scalp with her fingernails! It was horrific, I also hate getting water in my ears and they are not careful enough, I don't like being touched a lot of the time, somebody touching my head feels too uncomfortable.

I hate this. At the beginning of the pandemic I didn't get my hair cut for six months because they forced people to get their hair washed before they would cut it (even though covid doesn't spread through hair).

I didn't get mine cut from late 2019 until March of 2024.
Even then, I only did it because I was going to a funeral and didn't want to look like Cousin It.

I generally trim my own or get my daughter to do it because I hate salons.
