They probably have all those details worked out. Perhaps you'll feel slightly sore but I would worry about paying close attention to the instructions they give you. Won't there be a few weeks of restrictions until they are done the work they plan? (Like maybe avoiding popcorn and nuts...)

Hope you will recover from this soon..Am pretty paranoid about the level of care , I had been getting for the past 5-6 years , here in the midwest. After 5 differerent dentists ,because the first one had no understanding of his work , even though he had been a cosmetic dentist for a long time .And damaged a tooth root . Next one and the hygenist treated me badly .
Tried to pull out a Large cap, claiming it had a cavity underneath with just a topical numbing agent .. And when I saw her pulling so hard....It felt like my jaw was being damaged . After several minutes of this and my tooth cap not coming out . I STOPPED her .. and demanded the dentist. And asked if they could surgically remove it . By trimming the area between the cap and the tooth .alittle. And it came off easily . But later on she tried to convince me of more cavities and And a cracked tooth, Needing another new 1200 dollar cap.Two more dentists later , There was no cracks or cavities detected by other dentists. In her favour she did steer me to a goid Endodontist, when I actually did need a root canal caused by the first Doctor .
FYI , might even ask for Nitrous gas , to make it easier, Wish I had done that with the Other dentist , whom implied
that he doesnt usually do that ..Which is BS , For a tooth pulling out that the three previous dentists had not even
paid attn to a huge cavity . On the very back tooth .The yooth, because , my pain tolerance is high neurologically speaking . Please do not put up with poor treatment by anyone in any dentists office. in the USA . Its hard not to ve a victim , when people have their hands in your mouth. Best take someone with you .. If you can, Make sure they are willing to go into the treatment area with you .And keep them aware of your best interests please. 8O
Good Luck with you visit , hope it goes as best as it can . Take care .And also maybe alittle proactive on your oral health choices . :D

^ ^^ Thank you both. I think my anxiety is fuelled by memory of a previous single tooth extraction . I developed dry rot. It was the worst pain I've ever had. It was even worse than the 7 weeks I had with a broken femur.
I did ask about having gas, but was told it would make things more complicated, and ramp up the chances of problem occurring. I therefore agreed to just having a local anaesthetic

For whatever reason they prefer that you don't have anyone with you in the treatment room. My daughter has made some soft main meals for me, and I have ordered other soft foods. I hope it will not take long before I can eat properly, but my brother has just had teeth extracted, and was in acute pain for over a month.

OMG I had dry socket too, with four wisdom teeth. I agree dental pain is the worst pain imaginable.

I wish you well with the procedure. It sounds like you have a good dentist and good support at home. Make sure they give you something for pain afterward, and have a followup appointment pre-booked just in case you do get an infection.

I haven't gone to a dentist since covid, but idk I figure at this point at some point I will need fake teeth or dentures which if my sister has kids I guess I can scare them from taking them out from time to time...but idk I just dont have much hope in the ole teeth I have. LIke no matter what I do when I go dentist they always warn me my teeth have been ground down a bit...cause well I do tend to grind my teeth a bit when I am nervous. So whatever at some point I bet I'll have dentures and I bet I'll hate it so idk with good luck 60 years from now I'll be complaining about dentures and still listening to heavy metal and post punk music and posting all about it here.

Dear FireMonkey... am not sure if am being overprotective of another Aspie , but all dentists have excuse not to use Gas, it impacts their bottom dollar , Requires more time for recovery , You might trying threatening to back out of the treatment if no gas or ""call around""..As I understand it is not un common for dentists to. advise their patients against the patients best interest..And as far as no one in the exam area/ treatment area ..same differerence .
All dentists I have seen , Use production line values .....You have been alive this long..And out of respect , they
SHOULD give you these options . Discard any ideas of Stoicism or being Polite when someone is going to be Professionally inflicting pain on you. ...My younger GF , whom is completely adverse to dentists .When they could not even to get her to open her mouth in the Dental chair. She was younger. They then allowed her Dad to come into the Dental procedure area. ( So thats dentist BS) He was unsuccessful .to get her to open up ..
Then arrangements were made for the Nitrous. And my other male friend , refused unless gas was used .
It is your body ,[[ The only authority they have is the Dentist chair, Is What You Allow Them Them]]
Am sorry to give you this info. and no one wants to endure dental issues, vs amount of time . But actual Trauma
to your mouth ( which what you sign onto in this procedure)..Sometimes requires calling your medical/ dental insurance company and asking them for a Dentist that uses gas , upon request.Or have a relative do this for you..
Seriously all this stuff is available .. Doctors that treat the Public ..are about their bottom dollar. ...not your health. I think you maybe alittle older , And it is not respectful to treat older Americans this way , low or High income.
My entire left side of body And mouth being disabled as it is .At this point in time. Is a direct cause and effect of Doctors using their own judgements, And that judgement is assembly line medicine and dentistry . As in the case of my. above mentioned GF
she would not open her mouth . Until thry had to have her Dad come in, And try to reason with her, unsuccessfully.
Find another dentist, that will at least use gas..And make sure the mask stays on until you feel alittle loopy.
Or worse case : Take a mini vacation to Mexico . But would require cash. Balancing cash is a difficult problem for most Americans these days. I think .And Aspies are good targets to bamboozle with medical opinion. To manipulate them into
being part of the medical production line mentality ..A Patient Advocates office might be a good start .
Or insist that the person you declare as your advocate come into the dental treatment areas and NOT waiting in the waiting room. but obviously out of the dentists way. These things are your legal right, as I understand it.
Best wishes ... Whenyou advocate for someone , it is appointed that they look out for your best interest. And Docs only
look out for theirs , even if you die .
( am not just saying this ,,have been through So many medical and dental procedures,Have gleaned the above knowledge from over easily over 50 ++ procedures myself , and my Father in law was a old school DO. And have at least two Doctors , I might turn to if I ever needed references .. Best wishesOn your experiences please.

Thanks, all of you. I already have codeine for the hip and knee/leg pain that I experience. That currently is a 7 level pain, and I can't take any more codeine till 22.00.
