Incase these things going on in the World Affairs are not almost exactly replkaying the same anxiety , the powers that be are creating upon their respective peoples.........But double down and add more players ( Countries}. And everybody has got the " BOMB". ..... Add alittle covid , into the mix .And shake Well ...Add a few extradrops of Isreali nationalism
and a few more drop of Irarian Nationalism ..Let me know how long it takes before this creates some kinda mess ....
And the CIA waits on the sidelines, to see who to poke, when things really get going ??,
But If I am misinterpeting these things poorly ? then please offer an opinion, cause this stuff feels bad ..!

you're running together two different songs. "Where Have all Flowers Gone?" is one song, and "Eve of Destruction" is another.

Yes, the world situation at this moment does remind one of "Eve of Destruction" despite the fact that the song, about then end of the world, was written like sixty years ago.

Like you said...Israel and Iran circling the boxing ring. The US sending forces to back up Israel. And Ukraine, and so on.

They're both good songs and they're just as relevant today as they were in the 1960s.

Eve of Destruction
by P.F. Sloan

[Verse 1]
The Eastern world, it is explodin'
Violence flarin', bullets loadin'
You're old enough to kill, but not for votin'
You don't believe in war, but what's that gun you're totin'?
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin'

[Chorus]
But you tell me over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction

[Verse 2]
Don't you understand what I'm tryin' to say?
And can't you feel the fears I'm feelin' today?
If the button is pushed, there's no runnin' away
There'll be no one to save with the world in a grave
Take a look around you, boy, it's bound to scare you, boy

[Chorus]
. . .

[Verse 3]
Yeah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin'
I'm sittin' here just contemplatin'
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation
Handful of senators don't pass legislation
And marches alone can't bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin'
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'

[Chorus]
. . .

[Verse 4]
Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
Ah, you may leave here, for four days in space
But when you return, it's the same old place
The poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace

[Chorus]
. . .
No, no, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction

Where Have All the Flowers Gone?
by Pete Seeger

[Verse 1]
Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone?
The girls have picked them, every one
Oh, when will you ever learn?
Oh, when will you ever learn?

[Verse 2]
Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young girls gone?
They've taken husbands, every one
Oh, when will you ever learn?
Oh, when will you ever learn?

[Verse 3]
Where have all the young men gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young men gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young men gone?
They're all in uniform
Oh, when will you ever learn?
Oh, when will you ever learn?

Barry McGuire (who did the hit version back in '65) still performs it on those Public Television folk music shows.

He updated a line in the fourth verse. Instead of "Selma Alabama" (which was the scene of newsfootage of local police beating and hosing down civil rights demonstrators at the time the song came out but is now "history") he sings "look at all of the hate thats in Red China, and then look around at.... Columbine Colorado". Stunning change that does restore some of the original punch of the song...and makes you think.

My grade 8 English teacher was something of a hippie, he had been one apparently in the 60s, and he played "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" for us on his guitar. That was pretty cool, actually.

"Flowers" is a lovely song that always seems timely even if not an urgent sense

"Eve" is so angry and over the top that it comes off as being either one extreme or the other...either as a laughable self parody, or as a scary harbinger of the real end times...depending upon whatever the headlines happened to be at the time you hear it. Have had both reactions over the last half century hearing it (as the world situation changes back and forth). But...its also a song thats here to stay! And should be. And right now is one those times that...it doesnt seem so laughable.
