There's a woman here who turned 50 a month or two ago and I'm turning 50 in October. She seems to be lightyears ahead of me in the maturity department. Are women more mature or is it just my imagination? Maybe it's my level of function perhaps? I don't know.

I'm going to assume you're asking for emotional development comparisons and relative to life experiences.

In typical developmental trajectories, more likely in terms of socialization and emotional maturity.

It starts with earlier social and emotional expectations from society and the earlier puberty ages compared to males.

Not necessarily faster, just sooner.
And it can even itself in time, with the right circumstances...

I don't know the full picture when it came to NDs' cases except it's still the same physically. But I'm not sure emotionally since that's an individual case thing.

Only that overrepresented females are usually either high maskers, overcompensating with their own underdevelopment or too underdeveloped to compensate and mask.
I don't know what are the odds of being 'in-between' that. Or the overall odds in male data comparison.

But if you, an ND guy, comparing yourself to an (assumably)NT woman, relatively to their emotional and social maturity, regardless of your functioning levels or comparing careers and relationships, of course it will very much look or feel that way. :o

I emphasized on the word 'look'. And 'feel'.

Meaning that the 50 year old (assumably)NT woman is more likely taken a bit more seriously and perceived as someone more mature, is able to present and carry herself that way whether or not she has more worldly experience, has more or less 'childlike preferences', or has anymore 'adult achievements and responsibilities' than you since we don't know her enough to actually compare her to you...

As for me?
I just see past through these things, statistics or not. Like, yeah, I see the comparison but it's optional for me to play along with it.

Like, I can see how everyone can be flawed and not just know everything.

Like, I can see past their achievements and social representations. Whether it's real or illusory, I kept seeing 'human' before their worldly statuses.

That everyone has their limit and no one knows everything no matter how much they've been through in life, how much power they hold, or even how competent they are in that however prestigious specific field...

Like...
I don't care if I'm more or less mature than another ND male or another female NT of the same age.

I have a lot of life experiences that most folks don't get until they are older, yet I look like I'm in my late 30s!

A lot of people here have executive function issues which means they don't take advantage of opportunities until later in life.

There are possible developmental differences to explain it (though not thoroughly proven), but women are also more expected to be caretakers of other people, those people's feelings, or the environment / shared spaces more generally. This results in them seeming more mature, though it may be that they are internalizing problems. A stereotypical example is if a child is starting fights versus develops an eating disorder. Both roughly equally dysfunctional, but the second may seem more mature and together until their dysfunction catches up to them in a way others can observe.

Those are all very good points. Thank you for your responses.

When I was a teenager I used to hear that girls matured more quickly than boys. But I don't know about that because most humans don't mature at all. In a good way, I mean. Not "immature" such as still sleeping with stuffed animals or eating gummy bears, but "immature" as in being really stupid or gross.

I think girls might mature faster so it would apply to very young people, like preteens and teens, that girls might be more mature than boys, but I don't think it applies in adulthood.
