I'm a bit surprised to see this but it sounds like the founding guard might be starting to give up and look for a different way forward. Also interesting that Curt got the interview - it's a great show and its geared toward the physics, mathematics, and philosophy communities.

The Emperor's New Mind: Concerning Computers, Minds and The Laws of Physics is a 1989 book by the mathematical physicist Roger Penrose.
Penrose argues that human consciousness is non-algorithmic, and thus is not capable of being modeled by a conventional Turing machine, which includes a digital computer. Penrose hypothesizes that quantum mechanics plays an essential role in the understanding of human consciousness.

Fashion, Faith, and Fantasy in the New Physics of the Universe, The first three Chapters discussed three important theories with the feature of fashion, faith and fantasy, respectively. They are the string theory (fashion), quantum mechanics (faith) and the current cosmology theory (fantasy). :jester: :jester: :D :D :nerdy:

I had a roommate in the 1990s who was a physics grad student studying string theory.

I looked him up on the Internet a few months ago and saw that he is now a prof, but doesn't teach string theory.
