There are a number of people here from the UK and so I thought this would be a good place to ask a question about Scotch Eggs

From Wikipedia:

There are lots of different sausages. Which kind would this normally be?

In the US, we have a "breakfast sausage" which is usually not in a casing. I don't know if the UK has the same sausage or not. My inclination would be to try using this sausage to make Scotch Eggs, but I have no idea if that is the usual sausage.

Breakfast sausage sounds good if you can't buy scotch eggs from your local supermarket.

I don't think anyone around here carries scotch eggs.

There are two supermarkets in my county. The local supermarket is about 2,500 square feet in size, maybe a bit less. They don't really carry much. In most cases, they only carry one or two brands of items. On the other hand, they carry maybe about six or eight brands of salsa.

One thing that is unusual is that they do have Wagyu beef raised by a friend on his farm/ranch. Our local prices for it are well below prices you see for it on the Internet (about 1/4 to 1/3 the prices you have to pay if you order it on the Internet). Even better, if you want to buy 50 pounds or more of it, the farm/ranch will deliver it straight to your house.

They also used to sell fresh eggs from chickens raised by local farm kids!

I used to go to another supermarket that was much smaller than the local store when I had to drive to that town three times a week for work. Even though it was smaller and couldn't carry much, the owner would go out of his way to special order just about anything you wanted provided you committed to buying at least a minimum amount of that product. You could really get a discount for anything you bought by the case.

For some things, I have to go to a larger supermarket in a larger area town. For example, to make some Apple Crisp the other day, I had to drive to another town to get Granny Smith apples since the local store only carries Red Delicious and is often out of them.

The nearest regular size grocery store by U.S. standards is about an hour's drive each way. The last time I stopped there was in June.

Here is a recipe with some background on English Sausage.

Pork sausage with added bread crumbs should be close.
They sell Polish sausage in Connecticut. Some companies have special recipes they bring out for Easter.

No, I'm a vegetarian. It's probably possible to buy or make them meat-free, but I've heard all scotch eggs can give you bad breath. If that's not true, I'm in. I like devilled eggs. Even the name is attractive. Not that I prefer devils to Scots.
