Dad furious after shocking video shows staffer drag son by genitals at NYC-funded autism center

Quote:
A case worker at a Dutchess County center for autistic students grabbed a 19-year-old from Queens by his genitals and squeezed them in his grip while dragging the teen as he howled in agony, horrifying video shows.

Garnet Collins, 50, is charged with brutalizing the youth at the publicly-funded boarding school run by the private Anderson Center for Autism in upstate Staatsburg, about 10 miles north of Poughkeepsie.

Sparking even more outrage, the Anderson Center swiftly fired the whistleblower who recorded the smoking-gun video and then alerted the teen’s parents.

Not the same facility the other thread is about

It never fails to amaze me how easy it is for humans to see people who are disabled as just "things" and not people.

This is terrible of course and there were plenty of incidents in the UK too, secret filming of abuse in locked institutions that were modern equivalents of the old Victorian asylums.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy3qg32hKFc

The UK has autistic people locked up for decades for no crime while at the same time promoting autism acceptance month.

The problem is profound autism, or even mid level autism sometimes, it is extremely resource hungry, your dealing with people who need 24/7 care, unlike those with dementia that tend to be old, slow and weak those with profound autism can be young, strong, aggressive, destructive , incapable of following instructions at times.

I`m not sure what the answer is apart from treatment / cure to make these people more functional allowing them more body autonomy.

If autism is going up how will countries cope with hundreds of thousands / millions of people like this in the future. Probably drugging them into submission, maybe strapping them to some AI headset so they can disappear into their own world like the Matrix movie & require minimal resources to look after them.

Without some kind of treatment breakthrough i believe the future will be dark for many of the more severely impacted autistics among us.
