For those of you who don't know what they compose, here's a list:

Nobuo Uematsu:

I'm sure everyone on here knows this but Uematsu composed the tunes for the Final Fantasy series, creator of one of the most catchy jingles, (the victory theme in Final Fantasy games) composer of upcoming next gen games Blue Dragon and Lost Odessy and claims to be influenced by Elton John.

Koji Kondo:
Composes the music for Mario and Legend of Zelda. Contender for the most catchy tunes ever created, just listen to the theme tune to Mario and Legend of Zelda.

Kazumi Totaka:
Hides a song in every game he composes for. Track record includes Animal Crossing, Nintendogs, Pikmin 2, Mario Paint, Mario Golf TT, Wave Race 64 and Yoshi's Story.

Yasunori Mitsuda:
Don't know much about this one but he's well known. His tunes are Celtic influenced and he was the original composer for Chrono Trigger. He also composed the music for Deep Labyrinth on DS and although the game wasn't very good, the music was.

Koshiro Yuzo:

Composed the music for the Sonic the Hedgehog games, the Streets of Rage games, The Revenge of the Shinobi, Super Adventure Island and ActRaiser, as well as some not very good games.

So let voting commence (although I think I know who's going to win already)

Nobuo Uematsu, is my favorite.

Every Final Fantasy game is packed full of great melodies and interesting music. Only a couple of the tracks stay the same between Final Fantasy games... Something about his style... just the right amount of melody and classical music flourishes. And no matter the type of music... most uses the Bass Guitar... a style I am sort of copying for my music.

Koji Kondo is good... but he's best work was on the NES it seems... everything else is just building on that foundation. The Zelda theme... on the original NES... still gives me chills...

Yasunori Mitsuda, he's pretty good. Chrono Trigger is great... but haven't really played too much of what he has to offer lately. I've read that he was the technical guy... creating the sounds for earlier square games before Chrono Trigger. And it shows... the instruments sound amazing in that game.

I miss the SNES days of video game music...

I think Nobuo has the best standout stuff, but he hasn't been very consistent at all and in the last several years has been simply average, and occasionally mediocre.

Yasunori Mitsuda is as good as Nobuo I think, and though he hasn't really done as much as Nobuo he seems to still have some spark. The Xenogears/Xenosaga games he worked on had excellent soundtracks.

My vote goes to Nobuo, with Yuzo second. Would have been nice to see a few Western composers on there, though, like Jesper Kyd (Hitman series, Freedom Fighters), Jeremy Soule (Morrowind, Oblivion, Icewind Dale, Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander), and Jon Hallur (EVE Online), just to even it out a bit.

Nobuo Uematsu hands down, but I'm not particularly a big fan of any of those. Catchy, yes, but I don't listen to music because it's catchy. I'd vote for Chris Vrenna for the American McGee's Alice soundtrack, or Akira Yamaoka for the Silent Hill soundtrack.

For me it was a close call between Uematsu and Kondo but I decided to go with Uematsu. And as I thought, he's winning by a country mile. Keep voting! :D

Out of the list I'll have to pick Uematsu. He's the most experienced and dramatic, and he's diversified himself quite well in the past ten years. I still consider him an equal to John Williams.
It may be true that some of his more recent FF compositions have not been so hot compared to his older tunes but I blame that more on time constraints and admittedly even the best artists get tired of doing the same things over and over again. The stuff he does on his own though is still phenomenal so i know the man still has it.

I'm not too familiar with the others except for Mitsuda. I really liked his compositions for Chrono Trigger/Cross and Xenogears. For a while he kind of an alternate to Uematsu but has a more relaxed style rather than dramatic. His stuff for Xenosaga I was still good but not up to par with earlier works. After that I think he sort of dropped out of things to do lesser known work. I really haven't heard anything by him since Xenosaga.
