To say that Mike Johnson’s hold on the speakership is tenuous is an understatement. On January 3 is when a speaker is supposed to be confirmed. The possibility is real that he won’t be. What is three days later? January 6th when the election of Trump is scheduled to be certified. If no speaker has been chosen by then no can do. Yep, that’s right the Republicans will have blundered into doing what the insurrectionists four years ago failed to do.

Of course 2 weeks later is when Trump is scheduled to take office. What if somehow he has not been certified by then?

The next person in line would the speaker, but since there would be no speaker, it would be President Pro Tempore of the Senate. If one has not chosen of if that person chooses not resign his congressional position Secretary of State Anthony Blinken would become Acting President. Why Biden’s Secretary of State? You need to have a President to discharge cabinet officers. If Blinken has resigned the line of succession goes down a list of Biden cabinet officers.

I can envision the not certifying the election on January 6th happening, but getting to January 20th, that would be improbable. I hope.

On Jan 6, Chuck Grassley--91 years old--would be president pro tem. Between now and Jan 3, it would be Patty Murray.

I'm not worried about this, and I'm a government contractor.

I'm sorry, but from an outside perspective these are ROFL concepts.
Please let there be a camera in Trump's face if any of this goes down.

Kinda doubt it, Trump is behind Johnson, and I think he will stay as speaker, but I am sure he will get a far-right challenge but will survive.

Grassley still has to be elected by his fellow Senators to that position.
