It is the New Year so I am thinking about my resolutions and goals

One of those goals is to find a nice career

I would love to be a game developer or do SOMETHING related to video game development like composing or voice-acting

But IDK where to even begin with all of this and how to get the ball rolling!! !

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance!! !

Develop game apps on your own, and post them in the Apple store.

agree with fnord, it seems to be a hard industry to get into. Plus long hours and "well if you aren't prepared to do this we can easily get someone else" but nothing stopping you doing it as an indie developer first

^Hmm...it might actually be easier to start from the bottom as a video-game voice actor first

But to do that I would need to know where the big companies contract their VA's from and how they get contracted!! !

The BIGGEST hinderance to this is the fact that I live in a small town and it would be hard to commute to Japan, U.K or even L.A.!

For actual game development you are correct @Fnord with starting as an Indie developer first before advancing to the big corporations

Have you received any formal voice training?  If so, from whom or what institution?  What makes your voice unique?

Well no but...I did do Drama class in high school so I have at least SOME acting experience!! !

However, voice-acting is a bit different because you have to rely on your voice more than your other talents!

I think I have a unique voice

My brother said I would have to become part of a talent agency if I want to get into voice-acting, video game or otherwise

I think he is right!! !

So the first step would be to get some voice training then try to apply at a talent agency!

As for actual video-game development itself?

I should take Fnord's suggestion and make some apps independantly first then combine that with my idea of using entry-level programming tools (such as Little Big Planet & the Nintendo Labo kits) to help me get my foot in the door!
