So for now a lot of dialouge between americans and chinese people, before both governments censorship the s**t out of it. But also China gave us vapes and affordable e-schooters, like I have a good e scooter that was refurbished and was under 100 bucks way better than the japenese segway brand scooter for 400 and the breaks went out before even a full 6 months, where mr. chinese scooter has lasted way longer with no wear and tear so far. 130 for that and 400 for the segway that gave out within 6 months, now the only trouble is how to get rid of the segway with brakes that don't work as we have to move and dont want to haul that thing with us.

Even better, TikTok users are deleting their Meta accounts.

Hmmm...

If the US users went to other versions TikTok, for whatever means, and started posting there like usual...

... How would they influence the contents and algorithms there? How would they adapt to the new rules?

I never made a tic tok seemed a bit weird to ban it though as idk what war info the chinese would have gotten from peoples low quality tic tok videos from the U.S. LIke idk facebook and instagram also track all your info and those arent being banned. But also what dangerous info is anyone going to get from social media, idk if someone tried to steal my identidy they would just get debt for collage loans not really much money.

The pro TikTok banners claim TikTok's users data is unsafe in the Chinese government's hands but I fail to comprehend how Meta users data is any safer in Musk's & Trump's hands  Seems to me like Musk & Trump are hating on TikTok so they can increase their monopoly over social media.

I think your referring to Rednote, a site used by Chinese in China.

Its interesting as it will be a true mix of two cultures together but in different countries, which may improve greater understanding & friendship between the two peoples which can only be a good thing.

I just love how the US is obsessed with making everything political, and is using the banning of a piece of brain rotting antisocial media as an excuse to start a war with China. Wars have been started over some pretty stupid things, but this is the topper.

Who's said anything about a war over TikTok being banned? No one.
Not any American officials.
Not any Chinese officials.

The Americans might be trying to twist ByteDance's arm into selling TikTok to an American entity like Meta or Twitter, but war isn't going to achieve that outcome.

I wonder how much of it has to do with realizing they don't control the narrative on TikTok.

TikTok's userbase is much more pro-Palestine than the Israel first crowd would like.

Hmm, interesting. I think I've actually heard that people are learning Mandarin specifically to post on there.

Pointing to "the enemy" is a propaganda technique that governments and other actors often use. I remember Trump saying on one breath that there was no such thing as global warming and that it's China that's causing it. So I'll wait to hear from somebody who can be bothered to make sense before I form any strong views on what the Chinese government is or isn't up to. Maybe they want to rule the world, but the same could be said of the US government.

As for cheap imports, if they're really damaging the economy in a way that's going to impact on ordinary people, something would have to be done about it, but artificially increasing the prices WILL impact on ordinary people unless the gov is going to compensate us. I don't see any plans for import tariff relief. And "You'll get the benefits when the economy grows and the wealth trickles down to you" somehow doesn't quite cut it with me. I'm going to need something more concrete than that.

It's a strange irony that right-wingers go for protectionism when one of their core principles is the Glorious Free Market.

Er......shouldn't this thread be in PPR?

News and Current Events seems most appropriate, PPR seems next best.

Dammit, that's spoiled my chance of being able to smugly say, "Everybody comes round to my way of thinking in the end."

Red notes went live in two days using the chatgpt API to translate, and now you can try posting in English

tik tok is a masterstroke of genius enabling the CCP to engage in a Psyops against young westerners + opportunity for data mining and monitoring.
