Mine is the Greek one :) It was my very first obsessive interest ever - I was six then when my uncle recommened to me a book on this - it was called "Myths of Greeks and Romans". I took this book two years later from his house after his sudden death because I loved it so much. My very favorite god was Hades, I imagined it should be me instead of Persephone who should be his wife :D And you? I won recently in an online contest a book on the Sumerian mythology and I want to read it when I only get it :)

I used to be obsessed with Greco-Roman mythology, and then later with Germanic mythology. I don't think I have a favourite anymore though.

I'm still and ever since I was a young child, I was a real expert on the Greek mythology :D The Roman one wasn't as interesting to me as the Greek one, though. I'm Polish but my knowlege of the Slavic mythology is close to zero - but that's because practically no info on it has survived. Out of those, I like only Leszy:

and Veles, the god of the underworld (like Hades):

I think my favorite is Greco-Roman mythology. Some of it is related to having very fond memories of taking a Classical literature class with one of my favorite professors when I was in college.

A lot of Christian mythology is very interesting. They went hard when building their setting.

When I was 8-9, I read a bit about the Sumerian mythology in Zenon Kosidowski's book "The Bible Tales" on the beginnings of judaism and the explanation of all those biblical miracles :P It's a great book for a beginner in atheism. It was when the seed was sown. Now, in the next few days, I'll get my book on the Sumerian mythology - and believe me that I'm going to read it "from the plank to the plank" which is a Polish idiom for reading a book thoroughly.

I think the English equivalent is 'cover to cover'. :nerdy:

Indian followed closely by Mayan.
European mythology is derived from the same source as Indian.

But the "plank to plank" is more interesting because everybody knows that books have ordinary covers, while not everybody knows back in the past they had planks instead :D

I've never learned a lot about any mythologies, only invented them. I have a very thoroughly developed story about the Goose family and their shoes who were alive.

Actually interesting question CR. Grimm's fairy tales are based on German folk myth much the same as tolkein's world of Lord of the rings was based on Anglo-Saxon mythology. the impact of the inquisition in the middle ages meant pagan beliefs/customs were eradicated but their memory was retained in folk tales and the perpetuation of popular stories like Beauwulf which withstood the test of time.

I really like fairies, mermaids and dragons so European mythology I guess. Although Asia has a lot of pretty fascinating and sometimes really creepy legendary beasts. Including their own dragons, which are generally quite different from the traditional western dragons.

Being into cartoons and video games I've pretty much get to see a lot of mythological creatures. If it wasn't for video games like Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing I might have never known or cared what a Kappa is. Also it's possible Bowser and the Koopas are inspired by Kappas, as they have a reputation for being "mischievous troublemakers". Although I've never seen Bowser snack on cucumbers and he seems to refer hot places to watery ones (although he can be overwhelmed by extreme such as fire or molten lava). :)

North America has some of its own unusual mythical creatures such as the Jackalope and the Sasquatch. Whether or not the Sasquatch is real is debatable, but it seems they have the magical ability to make the camera go blurry and out of focus whenever someone takes a photo of them, while pictures of wild animals turn out crystal clear.
