I have been to Scotland once.
Where in Scotland did you go? Was it any good?
We sort of had a three day tour trying to avoid all the crowded places and ending up in the middle of it all. Is it possible to get beyond Glasgow and Edingborough these days without ending up with a clean air fine as I tried avoiding both cities about 10-15 years ago and there didn't see a way. We ended up going miles through the massive city of Glasgow. Talk about massive. Seemed to take forever to drive through there!
Places like Glasgow would definitely be my last choice if I was an outsider coming here for a few days. Glasgow itself is always far too crowded, I had to go there in April last year for an exam and getting out of there was such a huge relief. I know next to nothing about clean air fines, as my family doesn’t drive cars, but if you want to go beyond, go by train. It’s… not cheap, I admit (at least for me, iirc a return ticket is like £16 but I think they raised the price), but you get to go to some good, non-urban places and the journey is usually a few hours. I’d recommend Oban or Inverness. They’re both small so you can get everywhere by foot, quiet, and have nice surrounding nature.
