I've been struggling with depression and I am embarrassed to admit I have been doing a poor job of taking care of my hair. Now a rat nest has formed and I am afraid it will be hard to detangle.

I might have to go to the salon to have a professional cut it out. What is hindering me from visiting is I fear they will judge me for not doing a simple task. Also I have very bad social anxiety and I don't want to do small talk with the barbar. Has anyone ever struggled with this before?

Note I am a female with long straight hair.

I've been through this many a time.

I usually detangle with a fine toothed comb (with metal teeth, it's actually sold for pets, not people).

If it's real bad I'll partially detangle it, then chop the worst sections out.

Worse comes to worse you can just buzz it off and let it regrow. The YouTuber onmushrooms did that, if she can pull it off so can you.
