I know this show is very polarizing in the Autism community, but I personally look forward to the new season. I'm particularly excited for Tanner, Connor, and Dani. Dani because of Adan. Tanner and Connor are the two most likeable guys on the show. Abby and David relationship interest me as well. Two level 2 autistics as a married couple. I don't see Abby mention David on her videos, but they do seem like the most stable couple on the show so far considering all the other couples broken up by the end of the season.
Dani is probably the most polarizing character on the show. She's very career oriented but have very high expectations for the average woman. Her rigid thinking and unrealistic expectations make her hard to watch, but I can understand where she's coming from. I had unrealistic expectations of being a full-time poet I my late teens and early 20s, but I saw that wasn't going to work for me so I shifted gears. Her aunt did say her desire to be with a rich guy stems from her dad neglecting her due to her autism and him not having a job. Her being autstic and half Asian-American does give a good explanation of why she's the way she is. I still feel that she turns down a lot of quality men just because they miss the mark on one criteria which is very superfical. Nothing wrong with having standards, but she should be willing to compromise on one thing if she expects to be in a happy long-term relationship, particularly with animation. The card guy from the beginning of season 2 would have worked out if she didn't mind driving 2 hours on a weekend trip to see him and not be so quick to dismiss him because of his career. Jake from season 2 seemed like a good match but it was too much of a burden for both to be together.
I haven't heard from Steve but hope he finds love. I can imagine how hard life was for him being an undiagnosed autstic for most of his life. He comes from great stock, but he does have more support needs than a lot of late-diagnosed people. It shows how far we come in understanding autism, and how far we still gotta go.
The dyslexic girl from season 1 may come back; which i hope so because she seems to be the most level-headed out of anyone thats been on there despite having multiple special needs.
Journey, the black girl from the last season is a breath of fresh air for a lot of viewers. Not too many black people are represented in autism based media especially black females. She's also gay which adds a new layer of the relationships on the show.
I'm honestly look forward in who they are going to add on the show for the new season. I'm hoping more level 1 autstic people represented. James is considered an aspie, but he comes off very special needs mainly due to the way breathes while speaks. I just hope it's more balanced with the low-support needs autstics and the high support needs one.
I'm excited for it too! I didn't realize it was polarizing. I've never heard anyone speak poorly of it. What's the critique with it?
I like all of the characters. Some of them crack me up because they remind me of old friends I had. Others crack me up because I can 100% understand what is going on with them and what needs to happen, but everyone else around them acts like they're completely lost and don't know what to do. I'm like, "He's clearly stressed out but saying that would make him more stressed. Just stop pressuring him! Compliment something about him and give him helpful options instead. Jeez."
For me, James is the most difficult one to watch because he is so intense and anxious, but I get it. He probably perceives his parents as a bit passive-aggressive, invalidating, and controlling. I'm actually impressed with James' ability to keep it that well together considering the context. I think that family could benefit from some specialized education and intervention. The parents seem like they're trying their best, but there's a mismatch causing constant conflict with little breaks for the camera.
Kaelynn does not give a fuhhhh what anyone thinks, and if someone has an opinion or recommendation, get ready. She gonna go full power on arguing against it.
Steve has such a big heart. I hope the producers protect him from women with selfish intentions.
David kind of reminds me of my step-grandfather, so now I'm suspicious. Hmmmmmm.
Chloe is super cute. Her emotions are contagious. I hope the best for her.
Ruth and Thomas crack me up. Ruth is hilariously shameless.
Jimmy and Sharnae make me laugh too. I was laughing so hard when they had that conversation in which Jimmy said that they didn't know he was autistic until he was older, and Sharnae he was like, "I don't know how they missed it." lmaoooo! But I can relate to him, I just haven't realized how yet.
I like watching the scenes with the romance coach, not because I'm obviously getting tips, duh. No way. And I definitely do not have a slight crush on the American one. It's because of something else that's super cool and super great. The Australian coach has a strong stare. It's like she can see the inside of your soul. She intimidates me, and I'm not even living in the show lol

I preferred the Australian one as well, but I think that country is decades ahead of the U.S. when it comes to autism so that's probably why.
But the American one introduced me to the concept of having a trained assistant who comes over to help on a regular basis -- Steve is the lucky recipient of this support -- which was amazing to see. I thought once you're an adult, you're out of luck, but clearly it is possible to get the right type of help no matter where you are in the life cycle.
I find the romantic aspects of the show too personal for me. I feel like a voyeur. But it's still worth watching, to me.

America still view Autism as an afterthought sadly. Ruth and her husband are just too sweet as a couple. Happy they got married in season 2 in the Australian version. I remember Abby's mom from the US version said in a Jubilee video that she was worried about putting her daughter on the show due to her being lower functioning than most of contestants on the aussie version. The American version did a good job showing more lv 2 autstics, but it also made it more cringy to watch if you have low support needs.
