Hi All,

I just wanted to get some thoughts but I've been thinking about staying in a hotel for a couple of nights a week as a solution to not having to do long commutes for jobs. I've had tried to do long distance jobs about 3-4 times and have been unsuccessful because of panic attacks and anxiety on the road. I had thought of the idea of staying in a hotel close to the job site a couple nights a week and then coming home maybe 1 to 2 days a week.

Unfortunately alot of the good jobs are about a hour away from where I live. It would be a big transition and not sure if I can do this successfully but wondered about the possibility. I currently stay with my family at home and never kind of been on my own. I am wondering if doing this might be a good step possibly in terms of personal development as well. It's a shame that alot of good jobs seem to be near metropolitan areas. I had gotten a job a couple weeks ago at a really good organization but ended up leaving because of severe anxiety with the commute. I don't want commuting to be a hinderance for me. Financially I think I could handle doing this for a while.

I knew someone who did this.
He had a house in the greater Boston area and took a job in Hartford.

A discount from the usual hotel rates can often be negotiated.

I used to stay at the same place in Manchester Vermont a couple weekends a year.

Thank you for sharing! The idea had popped in my mind before I left my last job but I dismissed it. Now though I am realizing this might be a path forward if I can get it to work. I would like to try experimenting by staying in a hotel a couple nights one week to try.
