note: I apologize if you support the war in Iraq. While I clearly don't, that's not the point I'm trying to make in this topic.

Does anyone else ever get annoyed when people don't take advantage of the one advantage democracy has? I mean, we basically throw stability in government out the door in favor of openness and complete accountability...and then Americans come up with this idea that you have to be "respectful," thus throwing openness and complete accountability out the window. I mean, if we're just going to let Bush do whatever he wants without question, why not make him a king? At least then we'd be stable.

To get back to the original question: Does anyone think this system would work better if Aspies were in charge of it? I mean, we're more open than most people, and generally don't gloss over the facts. I was recently discussing politics with some friends, and mentioned Mike Gravel and his comment that every soldier who died in Vietnam died in vain, and that the same thing is true of Iraq. My friends were all horrified, and told me that you just can't phrase things like that (promptly providing polite alternatives

I mean, think about it: while we happily gloss over countless deaths that accomplish nothing, those deaths continue. Wouldn't things be better if we could just say "too many people have died for no reason. Their lives were wasted for nothing, and those who are responsible (ie Bush) should be held accountable. Now let's get the living out." I mean, if saying the soldiers died in vain could speed up the process of getting them out of Iraq enough to save even a single life, wouldn't it be worth disrespecting those that are already dead? I think they'd understand, and would simply be glad that other lives weren't wasted.

Or is believing that Aspies would allow for more openness just me being naive?

Well, that's true in hindsight. At the time, however, the administration believed that they could win. True, some didn't, but they couldn't really prove that. You could say the same thing about the Japanese or Germans in WWII. If nothing else, every conflict is an education in a particular type of warfare. The Russians wasted a lot of resources and lives in Afghanistan, but their failure educated our military on how to better approach the same mission decades later.

For what it's worth, I think that the military is pretty close to an aspie mentality. They're mainly concerned with the bottom line, and perform a lot of exercises and tests to determine the most effective (though not the most efficient) way to provide a desired outcome.

As for aspies being better in government, I actually agree with the idea, but it would never work. We'd make rational decisions, but we're not great at politics. The media would pick us apart with false dilemmas and straw men and emotive arguments brought up by the the public over some of our more unpopular decisions and we'd be expelled.

When it comes to empirical facts, aspies are great, and when we agree on something, we truly agree. However, when we disagree, we can get truly psychotic.

Take Russia and the US.. as NT nations, they have their issues going back umpty years, over a variety of extremely complicated politics and ideology and history. ome of it is daft, some of it isnt. Both sides think they are right.

Then imagine that Bush and Putin were aspies.

World War 3 breaks out because Putin thinks Kirk was better than Picard, but Bush is a Picard fan.

(Yes I'm being mildly facetious, but its true. When we disagree on something, theres no telling how angry we will get. Thats not a healthy habit when you have a big stick, militarily speaking.)

However, I do think more things would get done more efficiently at lower cost if Aspies were in lesser government roles. Imagine if the postal service were organised and run by postal service obsessed aspies. We can specialise to a stupid degree, which makes us outstanding for certain roles.

I definitely have to agree with Putin here. Kirk was much better than Picard.

LOL And the U.S. would lose, because Putin is way badder than Bush.

Or better yet: imagine a police force run entirely by aspies obsessed with criminology. You'd have to be crazy to commit a crime! We'd probably use DNA testing to catch jaywalkers! lol

I have no strong opinion either way on the issue. I just think Azazel rocks on the British tv show Hex (although there he's called a Nephilim instead of a Grigori/Watcher, which is inaccurate, but whatever...).

Interesting. I think the answer is probably yes.

Side note : you talk about politics/government from the perspective that it is actually trying to do what it is meant to be doing (representing the wishes of the people who give it power), rather than what it actually does (representing the wishes of the powerful). That is the underlying problem.

For instance "every soldier who died in Vietnam died in vain" ... well this is only true if you think the government is trying to save the lives/interests of american people. If however (as is the case) the government is trying to increase the wealth/power of the powerful, then "every soldier who died in Vietnam died to increase the profits/power of the powerful" - it wasn't in vain.

so in your opinion going to the rescue of the iraq people was in vain and we should have left a madman in charge of the country to continue doing what he was to those people, you are one sick SOB.

so in your mind stopping the spread of communism in southeast asia was just a waste of time.
news flash, we won the cold war and that is the reason you have a cushy little life and aren't a slave or dead, that's if you would have had living parents to have you in the first place.

do you really believe the rice farmers in the pajama's bank rolled the NVA ? if so think again, we drained massive amounts of resources away from russia who went broke, we won, they lost.

you war protestors crack me up because you show no concern for all the inner city youth being slaughtered on the nations streets or all the men & woman dying at jobs like trucking, fishing, C-store clerk and construction, so obviously don't really give a crap about human life as is evident with your chinese shopping habits which don't bother you at all. You people don't even want to know about all the people dying in chinese coal mines or other industries over there, but if one of them makes it out alive and gets to our country and puts on an US army uniform, you suddenly act like you care about the person. just totally amazing logic at it's best.

the president is the leader for 4 years and isn't subject to second guessing by uninformed people who don't have a clue what is going on in the world. if you don't like our form of government, don't let the door hit you in the butt when you leave and remember the US Congress voted to go save the people of Iraq from their crazy leader. Only a mentally ill person would go in and leave before the country was stable and let an all out civil war break out which would be worse than leaving the madman in charge.
