Has anyone seen this movie? It is pretty wacky and I don't think I would take kids to it, but I just loved it . . .

Anyway, what I was just struck by is how Willy Wonka is just about the perfect example of AS - did anyone else think the same thing?

Yeah, I really want to see it. But I don't know if I will before it's on DVD. I don't often go to the theatres.

It must've been years since I saw Willy Wan... er... Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I hope you're not associating child abuse with AS...

In this one comedy program they had a joke porno film called 'Willy w*ker and the Chocolate Factory'. My friend told me about it and we have laughed about it since.

I haven't seen the movie, but I really want to see this one. I don't normally go to movie theatres anymore.

I was never a big fan of the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie mostly because it was not more than an extended commercial for a failed candy bar. Even though he wrote the screenplay, Roald Dahl (who's granddaughter, Sophie, is HOT, btw) hated the film. In cases like this, where the author does not like the screenplay because it was not in keeping with the story, I side with the author because it was his story and not the story of the director.

Dahl's major complaint was that the 1971 film concentrated too much on Willy Wonka and not enough on Charlie Bucket. Burton's film was supposed to fix this problem, but from what I've heard he failed in that, too. The problem that I see is that Willy Wonka is just too large a character, and it is difficult in film or any other form of drama to overcome a character like that. (Look up the origin of the phrase "Don't out-Herod Herod") In text, it is easier to have an overshadowing figure who still remains a shadow.

Haven't seen the newer version because Depp freaked me out when I saw PotC (Pirates of the Carribean). I really liked the older version, though. :)

This is just a remake of a classic, which shouldn't have been made. This one looks very wierd...

Sometimes the original is the best. :) In the older version, I liked Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. That was good. ;)

Actually, the people who made the new one were very clear that it is not a remake of the original movie, it is a different adaptation of the same book
