I did this back in Jr. high, maybe a bit into highschool... I just carried around mints with me and handed em out to everyone.

It was a good way to introduce myself and people knew me as a friendly guy. I guess it could be construed as a tad offensive, you may be indirectly telling someone they have bad breath. But it wasn't seen as that bad when I did it, and it can just be used as a joke which is always nice...

I think certs wintergreen were my flavor of choice... nothing too strong... it's more like a candy than an actual mint.

And they'll be good for me too, towards the end of the day I get a tad paranoid that my breath is turning rank...

So I pose a question to the Aspie community... if someone offered you a mint would you enjoy it or find it a bit annoying :?:

Yeah I know... I have to be very careful about how I say it...

And what if I am saying something... people don't like to have bad breath right... :?:

Actually a guy at my old job did this same thing to... but he was really annoying about it. And the mints weren't that great...

He was the kind of guy who would do nice things to win others favor... but be setting up little things for him to take advantage of on the job. And the nice things he did was mostly just giving people free stuff other people gave him... a very annoying fellow.

I'd love to be offered a mint. I love the flavour of mints. :)

I'd be pleased to be offered a mint - I wouldn't take it amiss at all. I'd just think you were being friendly.

A guy from my stat class did this. He would bring a tin of mints and offer it to those around every class.
It worked well as an ice breaker as it got me to actually talk a bit with him now and then. I mean it is hard to take a mint from someone and not talk to them a bit.

If it was just you and someone else the chances of it being misunderstood are a little higher, but if you get a mint out for yourself first and then offer I think the chance of misunderstanding would be lower.

Doing that sort of thing got me taken advantage of when young and a teen. I would give people nice presents, sweets, stuff my dad bought back from abroad, and in the end, they would all be nasty to me again as soon as they got what they wanted. They preyed on my kindness and my strong desire to have some friends. Never again.

That's terrible... :? It's sad that those who are the most giving are cursed to be the most taken advantage of...

I am not that giving in any other respects. I only experienced good things from handing out mints. No one really expected it or demanded it, and I was perfectly willing to refuse mints to jerks. Actually, a girl gave me the nick name... Minty... I've forgotten just how positive it was for me to do this...

What a great idea. I used to do that in high school, only with gum. I forgot about that - I'll have to start it up again in college.

Of course, it was never exactly an ice breaker for me; I was just known as "the chick with Eclipse." But that's all right with me too.

But also - now don't EXPECT this, haha, but - what was nice was at the end of the year I got a couple care packages with gum in them as thank-yous.

ditto--I did stuff like this in sixth grade. But my intentions were purely manipulative. (I hated being picked last for kickball, wanted these kids to like me, it was a new school...)

Well Pugly, if you're doing this correctly which means - not being taken advantage of - then by all means, do it again if you so wish. :D I would say be careful about people being manipulative and taking advantage of you, but it seems that you know how to do this without this happening so - do as you may lol. :)

Sure I would take the mint...but at the same time be wondering what their motive is.
