I was just listening to the song Twilight by the Raveonettes and I remembered that when I first heard it I could never listen to it just once, I would get stuck listening to it again and again for over an hour every time I came across it. It's not the first occurrence, though...there have always been things that I simply can't get tired of, like every Radiohead CD ever, or every episode of the show Home Movies. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this and if it has anything to do with Asperger's and the fact that people with Asperger's can become fixated on certain things.

This could just be a behavior I picked up from my dad, although he mentioned to me recently that he had been similarly diagnosed. The rest of my family would make fun of him because he started watching the movie Sideways every single night and continued to do so for at least a year...or could still be watching it to this day for all I know.

Sometimes I find it frustrating though because it feels like I'm wasting time doing the same thing when there's new stuff out there that I could be enjoying. Just wondering if anyone else experiences this.

I go days on the same one or a small group of them. I can even keep track of the time now. I put up a Youtube on my site and that puts a date stamp on it. I have 5 going and have been on the same 5 since Oct 2nd. I have done this type of thing since I was old enough to put a record on a turn table. It was late enough that we didn't have to turn the crank to make the record play, but it was over 50 years ago. I don't think the habit has caused any permanent damage, although boosting the base and cranking up the volume probably didn't help my hearing any.

I do this with music and books, my son does it with videos, and my daughter with music. I think it's common.

For me, I listen to the very same music playlist over and over. If I am studying it MUST be my classical music list. If I am not, it must be my other one.

huh. omg. I feel sorry for any eavesdroppers in the past years. Yee, um Hall and Oates random songs from their Greatest Hits on Repeat One. Some songs maybe from Crowded House. Uhh...Knock Me Down from Red Hot Chili Peppers' Mother's Milk. I think it is the same thing as eating popcorn past the point of nausea. But I will say that doing that Repeat One thing got those songs out of my system. I played that mall song that I can't remember the name of ... by the guy who produced Danielle Brisebois. And I don't know if I did but I would have had NO problem playing something by Wilson Phillips. I have never Repeated Madonna or Creed or anybody like that though. Right now if I were to indulge in paying for music, I would get the latest anything by Crowded House or Red Hot Chili Peppers. I'm terrible.

I can relate. When I hear a song that I like I try to listen to it as much as possible. Either on the radio, I might buy a CD just to listen to that song or even now on You Tube.

I just recently bought the new album United Abominations by Megadeth, and have been playing "Never Walk Alone...A Call To Arms" over and over and over again. It's just that catchy!

Yep, the same song for days and days, until a new one strikes my fancy. Or the same album (sorry, I believe they're called CDs now! )

Or the same video. My kid got so sick of seeing Dragonheart every night.... but we only owned like a half-dozen videos and I liked that one. For a year, maybe.

I watch the same little pieces (brief scenes) of movies and tv shows hundreds of times, and listen to the same little bits of soundtracks over and over and nothing else.

Hey, laugh. I was talking to a student the other day who didn't know what I was talking about when I said I had 500 albums in storage and missed listening to them. She was asking how photo albums had sound!

I have been listening to a Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits tape now for a couple of weeks. The songs are really fun and I still enjoy it.

Have been listening to "Once Upon a Time I was an Ocean" off the new Paul Simon CD "Surprise" for about a month now. Have drove everyone at work crazy singing it there to my self (not quietly either :D ) and have asked one of the Paul Simon sites for someone to please upload it to youtube (I can't, tekkie inept) so I can share it w/ the Dino-Cafe on here. I do it w/ a lot of songs, but this one is going on a LONG time. BTW, if anyone has it PLEASE upload it to youtube :D  Thanks.

Listening to the same thing over and over again is not normal in Normalland. :)
I do it too and it drives my husband nuts if I do it with videos. Music I listen to by myself or with headphones, so no one else suffers. 8O
BTW, Twilight by ELO is the best.

My son does it with videos and my husband isn't home for it too much so he isn't bothered.
