I realise this has probably been discussed before, so apologies, just didnt want to bump a very old thread or anything.

What do you people feel is the main advantage of having AS?

It's a hindrance. I don't think there are any perks - except -maybe to emerge a stronger human being when it's overcome.

Hmmm, jj. You're on a downer man! Have a look at all the famous people who are on or thought to be on the spectrum (Try not to notice Bill Gates, he's in denial). I don't think most of them would be there otherwise. Don't you feel just a little less of a monkey than the rest of (in)humanity? I (we all) know it aint easy but it aint other aspies that make life difficult... Sheeet! if i was on the same continent as you I'd be straight 'round with a bottle of JD & a bag o' mowie wowie!

Being rational/mature and charmingly child-like at the same time.

Sorry, I just don't see any perks in this specifically. I have merits, gifts and talents which have zero to do with AS. As far as I can see the autistic spectrum is a personality quirk to overcome not something that necessarily brings with it any benefits.

Read some Sartre. Lost in a cold, unfeeling universe.

Finding each other. And, ironically for people who are supposedly self obsessed, compassion. Only way to know others is to know ourselves. We know that. Do NT's?

Most Aspies are clever, eccentric and arts-minded. Three characteristics I highly appreciate in people. Many people with AS fit the description. I guess the poster saying "being unique" somewhat says it in very nice words.

Always looking much younger than I really am. Usually figuring things out more quickly than others. The ability to teach myself many things without formal instruction.
