My bosses always tell me I'm a hard worker, but it doesn't feel like I'm working that hard. Sometimes if I finish early and need to kill 20 minutes before I leave, I have a hard time not working. I have to keep my mind busy, and I am good at focusing on one thing at a time so I hate being distracted by conversation, etc. Do you think this is related to AS?

I don't think I work that hard, either. I know my job and it is in line with my talents and interests. People do say I achieve I high degree of efficiency. I work efficiently and know where everything is.

Heh, I don't know. If I'm very narrowly focused on a task and doing it at a consistent pace, I don't really feel like I'm doing anything that could be labelled "work." As far as I'm concerned, it's a stim. If I could get a regular job, the light would be the same at the beginning of the day as at the end of the day. It wouldn't really matter to me as long as I were allowed to fill my pockets up with Power Bars. Heck it would be a vacation, like being allowed to stim all day long without having someone telling me I come off looking like a weirdo.

I little... I'm an overall lazy person, and I know it. I work hard when I feel responsibility to something, or attachment to it, but for just normal things I'm pretty bad about getting it done. Like keeping the house clean >> I need to straighten this room, but I really don't want to...

I would like to be a hard worker. People say I am sometimes but it is hard for me to tell - mainly because I have pretty low self-confidence, so I often think badly of myself!

I do sometimes have problems concentrating due to remnants of childhood ADHD, and also fear of things going wrong - e.g. me not being clever enough to complete a task well etc.

Am I surprised when people call me a hard worker?
Not in the least. I'm a very hard worker.

Do I think this is related to AS?
Absolutely. I pretty much don't do anything but eat, sleep, and work. I'm kinda compulsive about it. It makes me feel good.

im not surprised, and indeed I am a hard worker compaired to others who talk half the night.

I get alot done, and as a result im treated a little better then some of the others.

I do beleive it is AS related.

No.

Even when I slack I'm praised on how much more work I'm doing than the others and people who held my position in the past.

However when I actually feel that I'm working hard I'm usually accused of not trying at all.

Most people who don't work hard at their job are either socializing or doing nothing. Since neither of these options appeal to me, I can get a lot of work done.

OK, THIS WAS ME! After about 15 years it got tiring. Today I work only about 1/4 as much. I DID work 6am-8PM, and now it is 8am-5PM, and I only work about 1/2 as hard. I STILL do more than almost anyone else though.

I'm surprised when people say it, yes. I was very surprised once to be given a payrise along with positive comments about the great quality and quantity of work I've done - I'd felt like I hadn't really achieved anything for some time!

I think a lot of it is that I'm fairly good at what I do, so I can get quite a bit more done than is expected of me. I also do work really hard whenever there is a deadline looming, which helps (I find it hard to get motivated otherwise).
