Hi everyone! I hope I am doing the right thing, but I have had some interest in maybe trying the GF/CF diet. After considering putting my entire family through the process, I decided I would rather KNOW if my son's body is sensitive to casein and gluten BEFORE doing the diet. Earlier in 07 he was tested for many allergies via the scratch test. He showed NEG to casein and gluten. I found out just a week ago that you can only find the gluten and casein sensitivities by examining a blood sample. I am taking him to the allergist in the morning, hoping he will order the blood tests. Has anyone ever done this? How long does it take to get results?

We are also having our first IEP meeting tomorrow. Wish I knew more about what to expect/request. Although I realize everyone is different, what are some of the common strategies put into place??

Thank You so much!!

Problems with gluten and casein do not necessarily involve allergies. Celiac Sprue is not an allergy. My sensitivities to gluten and casein are not allergies, though I do have allergies to many other things.

I had no idea! I thought the stuff I had read had mentioned allergies. UGH. Thank You so much. I am so new to all of this stuff that most of the time I think the more I read, the more confused I get. Thanks for your help.

Here's why gluten and casein are so problematic: both molecules have a tight zig-zag folding in them that can be very tough to disassemble in the digestion process. Some of us have "leaky" guts, which means that our intestines will absorb and put into the bloodstream the molecules that have not yet been completely digested. The tight molecules can sometimes in some people act like opiates. When I eat wheat, I feel exhausted and fuzzy brained.

The best you can do a put a telescopic camera down there and even that is not always conclusive. I don't think you want to do that.
